Why you need to attend the Fall ConventionDear Industry Professionals,
I invite you to join us in Indianapolis for ASC’s Fall Convention and the EXPO. This will be the first Convention and EXPO under the leadership of our new President of the council, William Allmond. We hope you can join us to welcome Bill, network with colleagues in the industry and attend the exciting technical and marketing program we have put on the agenda.
This year will have the newly formatted two-day Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Short Course beginning on Monday and concluding in time for the EXPO on Tuesday. Be sure to take
advantage of the discounted convention registration for short course attendees.
A new feature at this year’s Convention will be a forum on the last day that will focus on a relevant topic across all markets and technologies. This forum will be led by Nat Brooks of Strategy Shapers and will include a panel presentation and open discussions on innovating and growing a business in today’s market. Stay tuned for details.
We will kick off the event with the ‘ASC Gives Back’ program and have scheduled the service project just prior to the welcome reception to allow for more participation. Please make plans to arrive Monday morning and join us for the afternoon service project. Our school beautification project in New Orleans was very successful and we continue to receive positive feedback on the value of our community involvement and networking opportunity. Come out and contribute to a local cause and meet new people in our industry.
The convention in Indy is two full days of scheduled sessions that will touch on market intelligence in transportation, assembly and sustainable buildings with corresponding technology considerations in structural, wood, pressure sensitive and cure on demand adhesives. Robert Fry, Chief Economist of Robert Fry Economics will kick off day one as our first Keynote discussing the outlook for the global economy in 2016 and beyond with emphasis on markets of particular interest to ASC members. Robert is recently retired Senior Economist at DuPont and was named as one of the top economic forecasters by Bloomberg, USA Today and the Wall Street Journal. The second day will kick off with a “state of ASC” talk and update from the council. The program will provide exciting networking opportunities that will allow you to connect with over 550+ attendees from the industry.
Review the program schedule for the most recent lineup. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with your peers. You can also check for updates on the convention at www.ascouncil.org or by contacting an ASC staff member. We look forward to seeing you in Indianapolis. Best regards,
Traci Jensen Senior Vice President, Americas Adhesives, H.B. Fuller ASC Chair (2015-2016)Register Online:

Welcome to the Age of zero-Sum Nat Brooks, Principal of Strategy Shapers LLC We have arrived at a point in history where demographic slowdown, financial market and economic instability, and political disorder are upending how ASC members and their customers go to market. The new world is reducing the lifecycle of product platforms, disrupting the innovation process, and short circuiting traditional buyer-supplier relationships.
The net result is uncertainty in an environment of difficult … if not downright brutal … competition. ASC members need fresh thinking on how to navigate this uncertain world. This presentation will explore how we got here, assess the key trends and features that will likely govern the marketplace over the next decade, and then bring together customer and member perspectives on how to build business and deliver innovation in this brave new world.
The Principal of Strategy Shapers LLC, Nat Brooks brings 25 years of Fortune 500 finance, strategy and general management experience to the work of helping clients create world class market and competitive intelligence as well as develop winning business strategies. From 2005 until 2012 Nat built Procter & Gamble’s corporate Competitive Intelligence organization. Nat is a recognized leader in competitive strategy in the consumer packaged goods industry and was a member of P&G’s prestigious CFO Circle. During his time at P&G, Nat also mentored competitive and market intelligence leaders at such firms as Newell Rubbermaid, Cintas, Brown-Forman and Pella Window. Prior to 2005, Nat led competitive intelligence and strategy development for P&G’s paper business. His competitive analysis and cost benchmarking work enabled the turn-around of P&G’s diaper business after the stagnant decade of the 1990’s. Earlier in his career, Nat worked as an internal auditor, cost analyst, financial analyst, manufacturing plant controller and manufacturing operations manager.

Nat Brooks, moderating, will spend the first half of the discussion exploring how these firms compete differently in the world today versus 5-10 years ago; tying in the specific organizational themes described in his keynote talk. Market stagnation, outsourcing basic research and development, lower innovation hit rates, endless cost/ROI pressure, “off the grid” innovation, will be topics addressed by the panel to illustrate how the supplier role has changed as we search for successful innovation practices of the future “world class suppliers” in the adhesive and sealant industry. Panelists will offer insight to ASC members on the marketing challenges from their point of view, changes in business prospects and most importantly what we can do to help them win in their market place.
