•Once you are in, go ahead and lock your screen

THE START MENU

To open:

Click on the Windows key on keyboard

~or~

Mouse – click on Start menu icon

CUSTOMIZE THE START MENU…Demonstrate

• Right click on any tile and you can

resize the tile

• Move tiles around in order that

makes sense

• Unpin a tile from Start

• Pin a tile to taskbar, right click on

tile – choose more – pin to taskbar

• Add a program to Start Menu

YOUR TURN…

• Remove one of the tiles from the Start

Menu

• Add your favorite “other” program

• Pin your documents folder to start

• Make your weather tile larger

• Pin your school’s homepage to your

start menu (Edge)

You will need to do this on each machine you use

NOTE: IF YOU RIGHT CLICK ON START MENU

• Right clicking on Start Menu exposes many options that you might need but most you can access through tiles and icons

• Personal preference – which is easier for you

One DriveYou can click this icon to login to One Drive for easy access to all your files stored in the “cloud” Gray – not logged in, blue you are logged on

Do on your laptop – not on desktops

Sync CenterClick here to manually sync your files to make sure you have all your files on your H drive available for you if you leave the network

*Don’t share your “synced” laptop

WirelessCan’t see your files – check here to make sure you are on PCSD Secure, not PCSD Guest. You also can not print if on Guest.

WINDOWS MOBILITY ICONClick on this icon and you have access to all these items.

PRESENTATION MODE

When the Windows Presentation mode is turned on the laptop doesn’t go to sleep and all the system notifications are turned off temporarily.

Users can also set a particular background and adjust the speaker volume for the Presentation mode. These settings will be applied whenever the Presentation Mode is activated.

Don’t leave in presentation mode when not presenting

ADDING PRINTERS

• Windows key and R or use Search Windows

• Run box appears – type in \\printserver

• All printers in district will appear

• Double click on any you want to add

• Use MFD devices (copiers) whenever possible to print,

• especially large jobs or confidential jobs.

SETTING DEFAULT PRINTER

CLICK in task bar

Type default printer

CLICK on Change Default Printer

Lots of choices – CLICK on one you want

CLICK Manage button

CLICK Set as default button

DISPLAYING YOUR SCREEN

Choices:

• PC Screen only

• Duplicate – you want same image on your computer as on the screen

• Extend – use to separate different windows open onto different screens

• Second screen only

• Remember presentation mode if displaying!

• EDGE and FIREFOX WILL BE AVAILABLE ON YOUR MACHINES

• LEARN TO CUSTOMIZE HOW EACH LOOKS TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS

• LEARN WHICH BROWSER WORKS BEST WITH THE WEBSITES THAT YOU USE FREQUENTLY

• See what favorites carried over

• Add/remove favorites

• Click on Settings in the Hub to change your theme and other advanced settings

• In Edge Only – Add a webpage to your start and/or task bar• Click on the “three dots” button

• The options are halfway down the menu

• Firefox• To bookmark…click the star

• Manage your bookmarks

• Changing the homepage and other advanced options• Click on the “three lines” button

• Select Options from the menu

• Customizing other settings• Click on the “three lines” button

• Select Customize from the menu

WORKS WELL WITH OFFICE 365

While working

Click on Sign In at the top right hand of your screen. Once you enter your school email address you will be prompted for password.

Then your name will appear where “sign in” was.

While saving

If you are signed in already when you go to save you will have options:

You may save into your OneDrive account for access anywhere or you may BROWSE and save into your H drive.

While sharingClick on share in upper right corner

This will appear and you can invite others to share your file and assign rights for them.

INTRODUCING THE CAMERA

• Now available: CAMERA Simple to

use. Once you take picture you then have these options:

• Now you can set a delay before it snips

• Great for capturing information from

your screen to include in documents or

presentations.

• Use search button in Task Bar and type

Voice Recorder

Voice Recorder is an app for recording

lectures, conversations, and other sounds

(previously called Sound Recorder). Hit the

big Record button, and add markers to

identify key moments as you record or play.

Then you can trim, rename, or share your

recordings, which are saved in Documents

How to use voice recorder

Speech Recognition

Windows Speech Recognition lets you

control your PC with your voice alone,

without needing a keyboard or mouse.

There's a wizard to help you get started.

Just plug in your microphone, and then, in

the search box on the taskbar, type Speech

Recognition, and select Windows Speech

Recognition.
