3) BICYCLE MOUNTINGINITIAL SETUP

This setup must be followed every time a bicycle with a different axle length is used.

BICYCLE SETUP

1. Yourbicyclemustbeingoodmechanicalcondition,ifyouareunsurepleaseseeyour

localbicycleservicecentreforassessment.

2. Yourbicyclewheelmustbeingoodcondition,trueandfreefromanyissues.The

wheel’srimmusthavelessthan2mmsidetosidemovementandlessthan1mm

verticalmovementperrevolution.Ifyourwheelisoutsideofthis,pleasevisityourlocal

bicycleservicecentretohaveittrued.Untruewheelsmaycausevibrationduringuse

andcouldcausepermanentdamagetothetrainerortrainerroller.

3. Tomeasurefitnessimprovementitisimportanttouseconsistenttyrepressuresfor

eachworkout.

For road bike tyres we recommend 110psi.

For mountain bike tyres please see that manufacturer’s guidelines written

on the tyre sidewall.

ThetrainerbasepowercurvesusedintheJetBlackapparemeasuredonabikeusing

700x23cslickroadtyresat110psiwithexactly1.5completeturns(threehalfturns)

oftherolleradjustmentknobaftertherollerfirstmakescontactwiththetyre.Lower

pressurescanstillbemeasuredaslongastheyareusedconsistently.

4. Bicycleaxlesetup:Bicycleaxlescomeinarangeofsizes.Youmustselectthecorrect

settingontheSQR(SetClipQuickRelease)beforeattemptingtomountyourbicycle

• Ensurethenutsonyouraxlearetightenedsecurely

• Checkthatthenutandaxlenestsintotheaxlesupportcupsbymorethan5mm(3/16

inch)

Quick Release Skewer

• JetBlackstronglysuggestsyouusethesuppliedquickreleaseskewer(forthose

bicyclesthatuseQRsystems

• Replacethebicycle’srearwheelquickrelease(QR)skewerwiththeoneprovided.See

yourbicycleowner’smanualforinstructionsonhowtoproperlyadjusttheQRskewer.

• Theskewerlevermustbeonthenon-drivesideofyourbicycle(thelefthandside).

• Yourskewermustbetightandyourwheelmustbealignedproperlyinthebicycle.

Thru Axle

• Bicyclesthatuseathruaxlesysteminmostcasesdonotnesttheminimumof5mm

(3/16inch)intotheaxlesupportcups.Ifyourthruaxledoesnotnestmorethan5mm

(3/16inch),youshouldacquireatrainerspecifictrainerthruaxlethatissuitablefor

yourbicycle.Thesearesoldseparately.

• Installyourtrainerspecificthruaxlemakingsuretofollowthemanufacturer’s

instructions.

SQR™ SETUP

SQR™(Set-clipQuickRelease)FitSystemSetup:

TheSQR™(Set-clipQuickRelease)hasfouravailablepositionssothatthetrainerwillsuit

most26”,27.5”,29”700candsome24”bicycles.(24”bicyclesandotherbicycleswillneed

tobefittedtothetraineronacasebycasebasis).Seefigure4.

YourtrainercomessuppliedsetinPositionTwo,Seefigure4.Thisisthemostcommon

roadbikewidth.Touseabikewithanotherwidth,yousimplyselecttheappropriate

SQR™holepositionandadjustthethreadedboltsothattheleverisfirmtoclose.Simply

adjusttheSQR™systemtomatchyourbikeandyou’rereadytoride.Thisisaonceonly

requiredsetupthatdoesnotneedanyfurtheradjustment.Itwillbeintheexactposition

everysingleride.Youwillonlyneedtoresetif youarechangingtoabikewithadifferent

sizedaxle.

movingthepinoneholeeithersidetocentrethetyreontheorangeroller.

1. Fromtable1,selectthepositionnumberthatbestsuitsyourbicycle.

2. Removethepinfromtheleverandadjustmentboltandslidetheadjustmentboltuntil

thecorrectholeisalignedandthenreinserttheshaftlockingpin.SeeFigure5

3. TheShaftLockingPinmustbeinsertedallthewaysothatitscurvedspringclips

aroundtotheclosedpositionsecuringittothetrainer.

4. NowrotatetheSQR™plasticleversothatitisopen(verticalpositionpointingup).

5. Onthelefthandside,adjustthesilverthreadedboltandblackplasticlocknutsothat

theyareallthewayin,withnothreadshowing.Thiswillgiveyouplentyofroomasyou

movethebikeintoposition.SeeFigure3.

6. Checkyourtyrepressureisinflatedtowhichevercomesfirst;thetyremanufacturer’s

maximumrecommendedpressureor110psiifyourtyreswillallow.

7. Takeyourbikeandgentlyloweryourbikeintothetrainerframe.Alignthebikeandrear

wheeltotheleftsideofthetrainersothatthebicycleaxleisfirmlyrestinginsidethe

threadedadjustmentbolt.

Note:Iftherolleristouchingthetyreandnotlettingtheaxlenestintotheaxlesupport

cupyoumayneedtolowertheresistanceunitbywindingtherolleradjustmentknob

anticlockwise.

8. OntheSQR™leverside,nowrotatetheblackplasticleverdowntoahorizontal

position.Seefigure8.

9. Checkthatyourtyreiscentredontheorangerollertowithin10mm(3/8inch)fromthe

centreoftheorangeroller.Yourtyremusthaveaminimum5mm(3/16inch)clearance

fromthemetal(silvercoloured)rollerframe.Seefigure6.

10.Thelevershouldbeeasilyrotatedtothehorizontalwithlittleforceandbecomefirmto

closeafterbeingpushedbeyondhorizontal(levelwiththeground),Seefigure8.

11.Iftheleverrequiresefforttorotatetohorizontalwindtheadjustmentboltanit-

clockwiseuntiltheleversitshorizontal(levelwiththeground)

12.Iftheleverrequiresnoefforttorotatedownbelowhorizontalturntheadjustmentbolt

clockwiseuntiltheleversitshorizontal(levelwiththeground)

13.Nowtesttheleverbyapplyingadownwardforceandclosingtheleveralltheway

totheclosedposition.Seefigure3.Itshouldbefirmtoclose,butstilleasyenoughto

closeandopen.

14.Checkyoursetupmatchesfigure9.andthatyourleverishorizontal(levelwiththe

ground).Ifnot,adjustasnecessaryuntilitdoes.

15.Whenyouhavecompletedstep13makesuretheblacklockingringisrotated

clockwiseuntilitisfirmlyagainstthetrainerframe.Thiswilllockthethreadedboltin

place,preventingitfromtighteningorlooseningduringuse.

16.Checkthebicycleissecureinthetrainerframe.Thebicyclemustnotmoveseparately

fromthetrainer.Testthisbyholdingthebicyclesaddleandmovingitfromsidetoside

andupanddown.Ifthebicyclemovespleasereturntoinitialsetup.

17.Finallycheckthattherolleristightenedtoexactly1.5turns(threehalfturns)afterthe

tyrefirstmakescontactwiththeroller.

4) USING YOUR TRAINERGETTING THE BEST FROM YOUR TRAINER:Do not ride your trainer with less than 1.5 complete turns (three half turns) of the roller adjustment knob after the roller first makes contact with the tyre.Itisimportantthatthetensionbetweenthetyreandtherollerissetcorrectlyeverysessionfortworeasons.(1)Itensuresthatthetyrewillnotslipontherollerwhichcouldcausepermanentdamagetothetrainerandyourtyre.(2)Itensurestheresistanceofyourtrainerisconsistentforeverytrainingsessionallowingyoutotrackperformance.ThetrainerbasepowercurvesusedintheJetBlackapparemeasuredonabikeusing700x23cslickroadtyresat110psiwithexactly1.5completeturns(threehalfturns)oftherolleradjustmentknobaftertherollerfirstmakescontactwiththetyre.Ifyoursetupisdifferentyouwillhaveaslightlydifferentresistance,butaslongasyoukeepthesetupidenticalbetweeneachtrainingsessionsyouwillbeabletomonitoryourperformance.Tomakeyourindoorworkoutasquietaspossible,setthetraineronaJetBlackTrainerMatanduseareartyrewithasmoothtreadpattern.Onceattached,thebicycleslopesdownwardslightly.Tolevel,usetheoptionalJetBlackRiserBlockunderthefronttyre.

CONSISTENT REPEATABLE TRAINING SESSIONS:1. Increasingthetensionoftherollerfromourrecommended1.5turnsto2fullturns

willincreasetheresistanceapproximately10-15%.Soifyouareusingthetrainerfortrackingyourpowerperformance,youshouldresistadjustingtherollerupto2fullturns.

2. Forevery20psiyourtyredeflatesyouwillloseapproximately5%resistance.Youmustcheckyourtyrepressurebeforeeveryridemakingsureitisinflatedtowhichevercomesfirstthetyremanufacturer’smaximumrecommendedpressureor110psiifyourtyreswillallow.

Changing Trainer ResistanceThistrainerhasfivelevelsofresistancetohelpkeepvarietyinyourworkoutprogram.Tochangethelevel,pullthehandlebarmountedresistanceknobinwardorpushitoutwardtoobtainthedesiredlevel.Leveloneofferstheleastresistancewhilelevelfiveoffersthemost.Changinggearsonyourbikewillalsohaveaneffectonyourexertionlevels.IMPORTANTEnsurethecableandhousingbetweentheresistanceunitandthehandlebarfollowsacontinuous,smoothcurve.Anykinksorbendsmustberemoved.Donotcoilorbunchthecableandhousingwhilstusingthetrainer.Thiswillcausefalsecableadjustmentsandreducethepotentialresistanceofyourtrainer.

5) BIKE REMOVALUndotherolleradjustmentknobonbyturningitanticlockwise1.5turnstobacktherollerawayfromthetyre.Holdyourbikewithonehandandwiththeotherhandundothedrivesideadjustmentknob,turningittowardsyourbicycleframe.Nowunscrewtheouteradjustmentknobuntiltheaxlesupportcupsareunscrewedawayfromthebicycle.Now

youmaycarefullyremovethebikeforwardsorupwards,untilitclearsthetrainerframe.

6) CARING FOR YOUR TRAINERWhenusedaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructionsandcaredforwithcommonsense,yourJetBlacktrainerwillprovidealifetimeoftraining.Wipeanysweatoffafteraworkout.Keepthemachineawayfromanycorrosivesubstances,suchassaltorotherpotentiallyhazardoussubstances.Iftherollerdarkensorshowsblacktyrebuildupyoumaycleanitoffwithacloth.Thistyrebuildupcanbecleanedwitharagbyfrictionrubbingtherollerwithasidetosidemotion.Therubbingmotionwithacleanragwillliftthetyrebuildupofftheroller.Donotusealcoholoranycleaningsolventsonthehydrogelroller.Acleanclothandfrictionisallthatisrequired.

7) STORAGE Caution!Thetrainerwillbecomehotduringuse.Keepchildrenandpetsawayandallowtrainer15minutestocooldownbeforetransportingorstoringyourtrainer.Tostoreortransportyourtrainer:RotatetheSQRleverdowntotheclosedpositionGraspthetrainerframebytheadjustmentbolts/axlesupportcupsandthenliftsothatyoumayfoldthelegstogether.Becarefulwhenfoldingthelegstoavoidpinchingyourfingers.Storethetrainerindoors,outoftherainandawayfromtemperatureextremes.Keepthetrainerawayfromanycorrosivesubstances,suchassaltorotherpotentiallyhazardoussubstances.
