WK2 Exploration: Storyboard

By Julie Carlson

Before I started the MCBS Program, I was fumbling my

way through the Mobile Development program.

I had always thought I’d wanted to be an actress, but

after giving it the good ol’ college try (Ha! See what I did there?) I decided that kind of

lifestyle wasn’t for me.

My father, being an entrepreneur, didn’t always have the luxury of financial

stability in his life, and that is what I want most for myself.

Having a family is very important to me, and

supporting them is a necessary part of that equation.

Acting isn’t a career that offers the kind of financial stability I

was looking for, so I decided to focus my energy on something

different.

I had no idea what I was going to do (and I’m still shaky on

the details), but then a friend suggested that I do something

involving computers, since many people in my family are

programmers.

That suggestion seemed to fit, and because of that, I began to look into careers that involved computers and their respective salaries. What I found was very

pleasing to me.

Computer careers are abundant, and as time passes,

there will only be more of them. It’s regarded as a very

lucrative field.

Because of that, I researched different colleges that offered Mobile Development degrees. Full Sail came in first place in

every search.

My brother, who is a programmer in Sarasota,

Florida, told me that he had not only heard great things about Full Sail, but he also worked with people who’d

graduated from there.

Because of that I decided to enroll in Full Sail’s Mobile Development program…

…Until finally I arrived at my major classes and realized I

was not cut out for programming work at all.

I found myself unable to get a good night’s sleep, as my brain was constantly trying to work out what I had tried to learn

that day.

As a result, I wasn’t able to stay awake during the lectures

I had to watch. I found my brain shutting down at least ten times a day, leaving me

completely unmotivated to try to understand JavaScript.

I cried all the time because I couldn’t handle the amount of

stress I was putting myself under.

My dad finally told me that if I couldn’t handle my first class,

it wasn’t going to get any easier as I progressed.

He and my mom helped me choose another major, and ever since I transferred to

Media Communications, I have been a much happier, much more relaxed person who is living life and enjoying her

studies!
