POLICE OFFICERS In Heraklion Crete

Proposal of Region Heraklion
► Region Heraklion International Police Association within
the framework of implementing the decisions of the Pan-
Hellenic Conference in Thasos, the Hellenic Section will
organize the 1st Meeting of Women Police officers in
Heraklion Crete.
► The meeting will deal with issues of social interest which are
plague contemporary society such as domestic violence,
drugs, organ and human trafficking, child prostitution that
interest police officers all over the world. These officers will
exchange views and proposals for theabove mentioned
challenges.
► Special mentions will be made in the information on the
circumstances that prevail in each state and the legislative
framework of the participating countries.

► The second part of the meeting will be discussing issuesconcerning the Woman Police Officer worldwide, commonproblems they faces in their working environment, within aparticularly sector of society. In a period of increasing violence,competitiveness and poverty they faces many inequalities,corruption and suppression of their rights.
► As employees in a public sector they should be treated equallyto men, as far their ranking, their training, the working hours,their salary and the equipment they carryes is concerned. Theyshould also be regarted equally capable to offer a feeling ofsecurity to citizens with a determining role in the issuesconcerning or dealing with them.

► Apart from been a civil servant they areat the same time mothers spouse witha sense of responsibility, hope and self-confidence towards the generation theybring up and guarantee in their ownchildren that they would deliver to thema better world, a world of security,
equality, democracy and justice.
The I.P.A. Hellenic Section and it’s department Region of
Heraklion has the experience to fulfill successfully the meeting
since it has organized a various of events for women Police
Officers aiming to sensitize authorities and institutions for the
problems facing woman police officer as a working woman-
mother

173.450 inhabitants and the

Greece. Heraklion city was
built in 824 A.D. It is the
main gateway of tourism in

The country of King Minos, the core ofMinoan Civilization was blossoming foralmost 2000 years. It presents bigMinoan palaces, royal apartments, epicbuildings with the famous throne roomand symposium rooms
The famous storage jars, the holypalaces, the treasury, the famousCustoms House, the Royal Villa, theStone altar which is surrounded bybasis of Horns of Consecration.Fascinating are also the labyrinthmyths with Minotaur, Daedalus andIcarus. Knossos’ ruins have been foundin 1878 by the archaeologist MinoaKalokairino and later on the firstarchaeological excavations were madeby Sir Arthur Evans (1900-1930), whichbrought into light the whole palace.

Phaistos disc is an archaeologicalfinding from the Minoan city ofPhaistos in Southern Crete and datesback to 17th century B.C. It is one ofthe most famous mysteries ofarchaeology, since its purpose ofmaking and meaning of those
inscribed on that are still unknown.
The famous painter with the nicknameEl Greco or Domenikos Theotokolouloswas also born here. He has initially beentrained as an icon painter in Crete,which was at that time part of theRepublic of Venice. EL GRECO’s style isregarded as an expression of theVenetian School of Art that wasdeveloping in the second half of the 16thcentury A.D.

Nikos Kazantzakis: Greekwriter, poet and theatricalwriter. He is recognized asone of the most importantcontemporary GreekScholars and as the mosttranslated writer worldwide.His works include: “TheGreek Passion (or ChristRecrucified”, “Report toGreco”, “Captain Michalis (orFreedom and Death)”, “AlexisZorbas” which was adaptedinto a successful movie“Zorba the Greek” starringactor Anthony Quinn.
The Royal Belvedere is located at Ηersonissosport, 25 km from Heraklion airport. Surroundedby lemon, olive and palm trees, the modern andairy rooms at Royal Belvedere are fully equippedfeaturing 21’’ TV with satellite channels, in-roomsafe and mini fridge. ►In the fixed price of 290 euro all meals are included - lunch-dinner-drinks- coffee-excursions-entrance to archaeologicalsites - and Local Unit will keep on trying to reduce the cost ofparticipation depending on grounds such as the number ofparticipants and additional sponsors.
