From the Principal Congratulations to the students who participated at the Regional Athletics
on Tuesday. A special congratulations to April, who finished first in High
Jump and Vu who finished first in Hurdles and Discuss. They will now go
onto to compete in State Finals in two weeks time.
This afternoon, we will be holding a parent NAPLAN session in the senior
Learning Centre starting at 5:30pm. We will discuss the results in terms of
what the big ideas that emerge to help these groups of children on how to
reach their next step. We will provide practical ideas that you can do at
home to help your child's next step in learning.
Thank you to all the families who completed the Parent Opinion Survey
that was distributed in Term 3. I am delighted to report that our results are
above State Averages in all domains. The anonymous comments support
the hard work and dedication of our teachers and leadership of our
school. I was particularly humbled to read that families believe we provide
a stimulating and challenging learning environment for their child and that
the majority feel that any concerns are taken seriously and are followed
through for (and with) them.
This is a timely reminder to all families that we welcome concerns and
feedback (positive and growth areas) to ensure that we provide the best
learning environment for your child throughout their educational journey
with us. Appointments can always be made with your child's teacher or a
member of the leadership team.
It is with some sadness that tomorrow we farewell Narelle Bruhn (Grade
Prep A) from Wonthaggi Primary School. Narelle has made a difficult
decision to pursue a new career path in Melbourne. We will be welcoming
Ms Jessica Grimes to our staff for the remainder of 2016. Jessica comes to
us with teaching experience from Australia and South Africa. Prep A will be
having a farewell for Narelle at 3pm tomorrow for parents and carers.
Jessica will be also be attending for families to meet.
Next Tuesday night our Maths Specialists (Chris Terlich and Karyn Thomas)
together with specialists from Wonthaggi North Primary School and Lang
Lang Primary School will be providing Professional Learning to teachers
from across Bass Coast. We have over 100 teachers attending (with quite a
long waitlist) for the Twilight session. This is a great testament to the high
regard that our teachers are held for their knowledge and skill in teaching
mathematics/science.
While we love the start of spring, it does come with swooping magpies
throughout the Bass Coast Shire. There is currently a swooping magpie
some mornings at the front of the school. So please be careful; if the
magpie is around, consider using another entrance to the school. School
hats are a great protection.
Kind Regards,
Leonie Anstey

CSEF—Dairy Assistance Funding In 2016 the Victorian Government implemented a response package to assist dairy farming families. This one-off payment of
$375 per student is only available in 2016 and will be paid to the school for the eligible student.
This includes assistance for Primary and Secondary students attending schools (Government and Non-Government schools)
where one or both parents:-
• Own an operating dairy farm.
• Are share farmers on a property primarily operating as a dairy farm.
• Hold a lease for an operating dairy farm.
• Work as an employee on an operating dairy farm and this is their main source of employment.
Families who were eligible for the means tested CSEF Payment are also eligible to receive the Dairy Assistance payment.
However families that have previously qualified for the CSEF Drought Assistance funding are not able to also access the
CSEF Dairy Assistance funding.
Parents can apply for the Dairy Assistance Funding by completing an application form which is available at the office and
returning it to the school by no later than Friday 18th November. The school will then allocate the payment directly
against your current charges.

Recycle your pre-loved mobile phones to help protect gorillas on the brink of exncon.
The Grade 3’s and Grade 4’s at Wonthaggi Primary School are helping gorillas in the wild by collecng mobile phones for
recycling and reuse.
How does mobile phone recycling protect endangered gorillas?
Recycling reduces the demand for coltan and helps protect gorilla habitat.
It also raises money for a nonprofit organisaon called Gorilla Doctors and Zoos Victoria’s
conservaon programs.
It helps keep mobile phones out of landfill.
How recycling will work:
Place your old mobile phones in the collecon box at the office or give them to your
classroom teacher.
PhoneCycle will collect the mobile phones.
PhoneCycle will donate the value of your mobile phones to Zoos Victoria and Gorilla Doctors’
conservaon programs
Find out more informaon at www.phonecycle.com.au.
The Grade 3/4’s are very excited about a Phone Recycling Program available
which can help protect Gorillas
