“An Environment Where We Can All Grow Together”
11/30/12 Dear Parents and Guardians, Report cards will be coming home next week. It is a perfect time to reflect on homework and work habits. Homework is a necessary step to help reinforce the skills and concepts learned at school. It provides additional practice for those skills that need to become automatic. Homework also helps students develop responsibility and organization, which are life long skills. Time management is key when working with your children on homework. The holiday season can become a busy time for all of us. Here are some suggestions to help you and your child stay on track for
accomplishing goals.
-Have a family calendar to record the fun events as well as due dates for assignments.
-Use the assignment notebook each day. It is a great form of communication as well as an organizational tool.
-Arrange a consistent time and place for homework to get done. Good habits begin with establishing a study place
in your home.
-Discuss routines. Agree on the best time to study for a test or complete those weekly assignments ahead of time.
-Long-term assignments may require materials. Make a list before beginning projects to avoid late night trips to
the store.
-Celebrate success! Help your child feel proud of their hard work. That pride will motivate them when they feel
challenged.
-If you notice your child having difficulty with homework, review the directions together. Break steps down to
help them feel less overwhelmed. Woodview staff is dedicated to working with you and your child to achieve success. Please communicate with us if
there are any homework concerns. We are happy to assist you.
If you happen to notice our Woodview Staff wearing jeans for the month of December, it is for a good cause. Each staff member has the opportunity to donate a dollar for each day they wear jeans to school. As a staff we collect these funds to provide holiday gifts for Woodview families in need. We purchase, wrap and deliver gifts with the money collected. I am proud to say that the staff’s generous spirit helps to make the holiday brighter for a few of our
deserving families.
Sincerely, Cathy Santelle Principal Woodview School

DIE & SHARE
With the busy holiday season upon us, sometimes a quick and easy dinner is the way
to go.
Consider planning a midweek pizza night by participating in Domino's Pizza's "Dough Raising Night" to benefit Woodview School.
On Tuesday, December 4, and Wednesday, December 5, our local Domino's (847-223-3300) will give 15% of your purchase price to Woodview School with all carry out
or delivery orders.
Just mention the fundraiser when ordering, and bring the completed form (found on the following page and also coming home today) when you pick up your pizza, or give
it to your delivery person.

CALLING ALL BAKERS
It's time to start planning for the Holiday Cookie Exchange for the Woodview staff!
Each year, we ask parents to bake cookies and then we distribute the cookies into
boxes for the staff to take home. We are hoping to have as many parents as
possible bake 2-3 dozen cookies and deliver them to the school on

between the five elementary schools.

Volunteers are needed at Meadowview school from 7:45-9:30 a.m. Please consider helping even if you need to arrive late or leave early. Spouses are welcome, and school-aged children can help too! If you know of an older student in need of volunteer hours,

Flu Season and School
To help keep flu outbreaks to a minimum, we are asking that all students and families follow these simple steps:
1. PLEASE keep sick children home from school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without medication, such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. (fever = 99.5 degrees or above) and their cough is gone!
2. Teach your children to COVER THEIR COUGHS and wash hands often. Hand sanitizers are also effective.
3. The CDC recommends that all school-age children receive flu vaccinations. Seasonal flu vaccines are available now!
4. Prepare in advance. Have alternative childcare available if you cannot stay home or pick up your sick child at school. SICK students cannot remain at school!
5. PLEASE report your child’s absence to school and tell us the symptoms. (Just saying “sick” doesn’t help us track illnesses)
6. Make sure we have current phone numbers to reach you and your emergency contacts.
