These are slides to accompany an 8 minute ‘Lightning Talk’ for the dev8D conference in London, 24-27th February 2010. Each slide is a link to a blog post I have writen on ways to use WordPress and WordPress Mult User, that are not about blogging.

1

This is a blog post about various plugins that can extend the semantc metadata on a WordPress site.

2

This is a blog post about the variety of feeds available on a WordPress site.

3

This is a blog post about OPACPress, a project proposal to use WordPress MU as a library catalogue platorm. It’s WordPress.com on its head, because it’s taking a relatvely small number of sites (<100) and populatng them with up to 1m records/blog posts. WordPress.com has millions of sites, each with relatvely few blog posts.

4

This is a blog post about BuddyPress, a set of plugins that turn WordPress into a social network.

5

This is a blog post about using WordPress to author academic artcles, with supportng metadata.

6

This is a blog post about aggregatng records from Insttutonal Repositories into WordPress to provide a ‘social’ front-end to repository content, where people can discuss the papers. I like Tony’s idea about using it to curate journals from freely available repo content.

7

This is a blog post about HookPress, a plugin that integrates web hooks into WordPress, for real-tme actons and notfcatons. It also links to other posts I’ve made about how XMPP, SUP, RSSCloud and PubSubHubbub are all easily integrated through the use of plugins.

8

This is a blog post about using WordPress to publish course content, again tying it in with source material held in an Insttutonal Repository. I also use the site to syndicate to iTunes.

9

This is a blog post about our work on WriteToReply and JISCPress. The ttle is mean to be ironic, as it’s using WordPress as a document publishing platorm for detailed comment, annotaton and deliberaton.
