Communion Offering on April 2
Donations left at the altar during Communion on Sunday, April 2 will be given to United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
For more than 50 years, United Methodist congregations have been taking part in a special offering, laying the foundation for the United Methodist Committee on Relief’s ministry of relief and hope. UMCOR’s work of alleviating human suffering around the world includes disaster relief and supplies, disaster risk reduction, health, and humanitarian development.
Gifts to the UMCOR Sunday offering (formerly One Great Hour of Sharing) cover the costs of doing business. This helps UMCOR keep the promise that 100 percent of any gift to a specific UMCOR project will go toward that project, not administrative costs. UMCOR has no source of revenue for administration except from UMCOR Sunday.
Because of UMCOR Sunday, when you hear about a disaster or humanitarian crisis and you give to UMCOR, you can be assured that one hundred percent of the money you designate goes toward people in need.
Easter Gifts in Honor or Memory of Loved Ones
First UMC McKinney has a long history of sharing the heart of Christ from the heart of McKinney. For this reason, instead of placing orders for lilies, donations are being accepted for Grace Children’s Hospital in Port au Prince, Haiti.
Grace is recognized as Haiti’s leading medical facility dedicated to the treatment of children with tuberculosis. Each year, the hospital cares for thousands of children who are suffering from TB, HIV, and other diseases. The facility also provides preventive, pre-natal and basic health care serving over 100,000 people per year with another 80,000 per year in community clinics. The care and prevention of waterborne as well as mosquito spread diseases greatly increased after Hurricane Matthew in October 2016. First UMC McKinney is committed to helping Grace Children’s Hospital and has made this our mission focus for Lent and Easter 2017. To make a donation, fill out this form and place in the offering plate with your check or drop off at the church office THIS Sunday, April 2, 2017. Donations can also be made online with a credit card at SharingTheHeart.org/EasterGifts. A list of those honored and memorialized will be published in our Easter worship bulletins.
