• What is well being?

Wellness is commonly defined as an organized set of activities

designed to help individuals and their family members

make and/or maintain voluntary behavior change(s) that

help reduce their health risks and/or enhance their ability

to function.

Hygene & Healthcare In India

• 50 million people still defecate in the open.

• 40% of school do not have a functional toilets.

• 4,861 cities in India do not have sewage network.

• 80% of surface water pollution is due to sewage alone.

• 839 million people have no access to sanitation services.

• 128 million lack clean and safe drinking water

• 21% of communicable diseases are related to unsafe water.

• 42% of children are malnourished and underweight.

• 58% have stunted growth within 24 months of birth.

• In India diabetic nephropathy is expected to develop in 6.6

million of the 30 million patients suffering from diabetes.

• The projected foregone national income for India due to heart

disease, stroke and diabetes during the period 2005 – 2015 is

estimated to be more than $200 billion.

• India’s loss in terms of losing potentially productive years

due to deaths from cardiovascular diseases in people aged

between 35-64 years is one of the highest in the world. By

2030, the loss is expected to rise to 17.9 million years which

is 940% more than the loss estimated in the USA.

In 2005, it was estimated that chronic diseases in India accounted for almost 53% of all deaths and 44% of disability-adjusted life years (DALYs).

It is estimated that deaths from chronic diseases would register a sharp increase from

3.78 million in 1990 to 7.63 million in 2020 accounting for 66.7% of all deaths.

Number of people with hypertension is expected to see a quantum leap from an

estimated 118.2 million in 2000 to 213.5 million in 2025.

• Sharp decline in basic reading from 53.7 % to 48.2%, Arithmetic from 70% to 61% and academic levels.

• Of 88.5 million children enrolled for secondary education, only 31 million attend classes

• Attendance in schools declined from 73.4% in 2007 to 70.9 in 2011

• Through nationally school dropout rate has declined from 9.1 & in 2012 to 6.9 in 2011, it has increased in the northeast and in major states like Gujrat and Tamil Nadu

• India has the 3rd largest higher education system in the world, but 75% of technical graduates and 85% general graduates are unemployable

• You can start your association by being a volunteer.

• Who is a volunteer - A person who chooses freely to do or offer to do something

• Types of volunteers:–Associate Volunteer–Professional Volunteer

The Types of Volunteers

• Associate Volunteer – is a person who will help the city to incubate and retain the city and operations in green.

• Professional Volunteer – a person who will contribute committed hours to each project allotted to a city at a specified intervals.

• No Certification or Experience letter / references will be provided if a member is terminated or discontinues.

Terms of Association

• All volunteers wanting to be a part of WSF should be above 16.

• Should have a good energy level, being lethargic is a crime in

our premise and in field.

• All documents and explanations demanded by office should be

provided at all times.

• Be willing to learn and to teach others if asked for; and can

understand English.

• Have heart to put others before themselves.

• Follow the charter.

• Spend at least 3 and half hours a week with WSF.
