December 2019
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving.
We had a very nice Veterans program held at Plainfield South High
School by Charles Reed Elementary School and at Heritage Grove
Elementary School. The Children put on a great program, the Teach-
ers must have worked hard on the presentation.
We hope that our Legion Families can attend our Christmas party on
December 14th. We will have Mr. and Mrs. Santa for all Children un-
der age 13. There will be dancing for the older children and adults
after Santa.
Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a Happy
New Year.

Dear Auxiliary Members,
November’s dinner was delicious and thanks to Doc for always making sure we have some-
thing good to eat. Thanks to all that brought delicious desserts and celebrated our ALA 100
years with a little bubbly! It was “Pie” overload!!
A few highlights:
We welcomed new member Linda Hale.
We handed out Auxiliary 100 year pins and challenge coins.
We donated $1000 to the Honor Flight program.
We reminded everyone to pay up their dues by Nov 30th, so they will be eligible to en-
ter the drawing for a 3 year PAID membership.
Remember to call the post and sign up for the Christmas Party, Dec 14th. This year we
will be honoring our service members Killed in Action since 9/11 with a Gold Star
Christmas Tree. All attending the Christmas Party or visiting the Post during the hol-
iday season are asked to take a “Gold Star Ornament” and remember those who
paid the ultimate price for our freedom.
We are hosting a Toilet Paper Drive in January to benefit Hope Manor in Joliet.
We collected 965 pounds of goods and $2900 to donate to Operation Care Package in
October. Great job everyone!
Member Jordan H. reached her goal of 5000 Christmas cards to send to troops. Also,
the 2nd edition of her book, Heart of a Veteran, will be released in 2020.
December is around the corner - so remember - take time to breathe deeply, “Remember
the Reason for the Season”, be nice to people ringing “The Bell” and remember our service
members who will not be with their families this Christmas. .
At the December 10th meeting we will enjoy our yearly Gift Exchange ($10 suggested) and
we will write out Christmas Cards to our members. Hope to see you all.
Remember, NO January meeting, but Jennifer will be asking for dessert donations for the
Post dinner.
Merry Christmas and Stay warm.
Sincerely, Alba

Hello Riders. Hopefully everyone had a great Thanksgiving holi-day. We were fortunate enough to provide four families with gift cards to help pay for their Thanksgiving dinner. Leaving us with the opportunity to help more families next year. This is also your final reminder for post dues and rider dues. Pub crawl committee meeting will be this month. Please consider being one of our representa-tives. Have a safe and Merry Christmas as well as a Happy New Year!

Comrades,
Thank you to all who represented our Post at the numerous Veteran’s Day events. It is so heart warming to
see our community take this very important day seriously and reverently. That will only continue as long as
we participate, mentor, and support the community in this regard.
Congratulations to Eagle Scout candidate Colin Meehan of Plainfield Central High School. He led a moving
flag retirement ceremony at our Post on November 9th for his Eagle Project. I look forward to hearing that
he earned his new rank soon.
Remember our essay and speech contests for middle and high school students. See the flyers at the back
of the newsletter (electronic only) for more info.

Sons,
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I want to thank those Sons
who assisted the Legion Auxiliary with a very successful Operation Care
Package collection. I know our deployed service personnel greatly ap-
preciate an extra taste of home at the holidays.
We have a very important task to accomplish during our December
meeting. With Ralph focused on getting healthy again, we are in need
of an interim Commander to fulfill the duties of the position for the re-
mainder of the year. Anyone interested will be given an opportunity to
state their case with voting to take place to follow. The selected mem-
ber will have close mentorship from Ralph and the strong support of
Boots and myself as your Vice Commanders. We look forward to hear-
ing from anyone interested.
In service and support,
Greg
Senior Vice Commander
