The Fruit Critter Mission

Progress is often the result of thinking beyond what most folks think.

For example, if we thought fruits and vegetables were only for eating, we never would have invented powerful medicines, beautiful musical instruments, efficient lubricants and the all- important food fight!

The Problem:The world needs more creative thinkers to fix the messes past generations have left us.

Your Mission: Find new ways of using funny-looking fruits and veggies that will make people laugh and think.

Think outside the box!

Let’s start with a storyline, poem, song, cartoon strip or joke that will make folks laugh.

Tools and Materials

Look for some funny look’n fruits and veggies in the super market for your head:•Turnip•Garlic head•Ginger root•Sweet potato•Gourds•Chayote squash

Tools and Materials

You’ll need a collection of cups, cans, and bottles which can serve as bodies for your critter.

Bottle caps and plastic spoons can make pretty good eyes.

Tools and Materials

Collect craft supplies and tools, especially:•Scissors•Sharpie market•Glue gun (or tape)•White and colored paper or card stock•Colorful sheets of ‘Foamies’•Pipe cleaners•Yarn•Tooth picks•Wooden skewer sticks•Colorful cloth•Beads, buttons or jewelry•Feathers

Modular Construction

Let’s start with eyes where the soul of your critter lies.

Make BIG eyes that you can recognize from a distance.

Build your eyes so you can reuse or interchange them to create many critters.

You can make hair from yarn, paper, feathers, or weeds,

Make arms and hands.

Long pipe cleaners work well because you can bend them to help make your critter come alive, and the arms will shake in playful ways if your put your critter on a remote control chassis.
