Dear Families,

I had the absolute pleasure of accompanying Mr Westbury and the Year 7 students to

‘Backpack 4 SA kids’ on Friday 16th August. We took all of the donations and a cheque for

$304.40, the money raised on our PJ Day at the end of term 2. The Year 7 students are a

credit to the school. They helped pack stationary packs and backpacks for children and

young people less fortunate. This experience was extremely rewarding. Again, I would like to

express my sincere thanks to the wonderful school community for the many donations we

received and for the monetary contributions. Without your continued support these events

and opportunities would not be possible.

Class Placements Information: Included in this newsletter is a form for parents to complete if

they wish to share any information to be considered by teachers when forming classes for

2020 or if your child will not be attending the school in 2020. Please hand these into the front

office by 27th September the Friday of week 10. (A copy has also been sent home with students.)

Reflective Muscle: The learning focus for this term is building reflectiveness. This muscle

develops skills in being ready, willing and able to become more strategic about learning.

Another area that students can focus on is Revising. Teachers at Fairview Park Primary use

varied approaches to nurturing the capacity of revising

Success criteria – Making it clear to students what they are looking for in a piece of work

and giving them opportunities to check their work against the criteria.

Learning coaches – allowing the students to coach one another. This is usually in the

form of a structured conversation where one person, the coach, helps another student.

Learning Intentions – Making the learning intention of the lesson very clear to the

students so they are aware of what is expected of them.

BOOK WEEK 2019: Students certainly showed their Secret Powers at the book

parade last Tuesday. It was a fabulous turn out of imaginative

costumes. Thank you to all the families for supporting the children to dress up

and take part. For those students that didn’t want to dress up or parade, they

still had lots of fun watching the students walk around the square.

Mrs Cappella or Mrs Wormwood from the book ‘Matilda’?

Congratulations : Year 3 student Edith entered the SAETA (South Australian English

Teachers Association) young writers competition. Her story entitled ‘The story of a

Witch and her Cousin’ made it to the final and she placed 3rd, winning a prize of

$20. Congratulations to a very talented student. Edith’s story is on display in the

front office for a short time.

Pupil Free Day reminder: Friday 30th August (Week 6) is our next Pupil Free day. School closure reminder: Monday 2nd September is our show day school closure. Save the date - Sports Day; Wednesday 25th September.

Preschool Enrolments: Please see the front office for information regarding preschool

enrolments for 2020. We still have a few spaces available.

A friendly reminder at this half way point in the year that our school uniform policy states that

students wear black pants/leggings/shorts/skirts, a red polo and a red jumper/hoodie. Please

see the class teacher/front office if there are any problems or concerns. Also ‘Spring is just

around the corner’ please be advised that hats are required to be worn at both recess and

lunch times as of the 1st of September. New hats are available for purchase for $12.00
