Employability – SKILLS

• Over the next 3-5 years a decrease in the number of low skilled employees.

• By 2020, 50% of jobs will be leadership, managerial or professional roles.

• Currently 1 in 3 (30%) jobs demand a degree level skills this is set to rise.

• STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) skills are in demand; 2 in 5 companies that require staff with knowledge and skills in STEM are having difficulty recruiting. A trend expected to continue over coming years.

Employability -Attitude

• When recruiting school and college leavers attitude to work, general aptitudes, literacy and numeracy rank well ahead of academic results alone.

• Employers report that young people lack work experience and qualities like self management and attitude to work.

• 88% of business recruiting graduates consider the right attitude is the most important consideration (above degree subject and class), and there is a concern that applicants have a lack of workplace experience and are not ready for work.
