Imperatives
• The IMPERATIVE is used when telling someone what to do or when giving instructions.
• It is simply the ‘you’ part of the verb.• In French you need to decide whether to use
the ‘tu’ form or the ‘vous’ form. The ‘tu’ form is used for someone you know well and the ‘vous’ formal for someone older or someone you don’t know , and when you are speaking to more than one person.
• The Imperative is the same as the ‘tu’ or ‘vous’ form of the present tense without the ‘tu’ or ‘vous’.
• FOR ‘ER’ VERBS THE ‘S’ IS DROPPED FROM THE ‘TU’ FORM OF THE COMMAND.
• To translate the idea of ‘let’s’ do something, the ‘nous’ form of the verb is used without the ‘nous’.
