YOUNG LIFENovember 2009
Dear Young Life Community,
This is the first 7me I have the pleasure to greet many of you as the Commi<ee Chair for ASU West, ASU Downtown, and GCC. I am honored for this opportunity to share our excitement about the future for ministry, staff, and thousands of college students. The staff
and student leaders who drive Young Life College are the reason for our progress to date. It is a ministry defined by the character and
integrity of its people.
Every emerging genera7on (ages 18-‐24) has its own challenges, but the challenges students
face today are unique. They were born into a rapidly changing world with record high family breakdowns, unprecedented poli7cal and economical struggle, a rapidly changing higher
educa7on system, and an emerging global workforce. While there are frustra7ons working with young adults, Young Life is giving
them what they most need-‐-‐a community that understands them and is commi<ed to support and challenge them. In the end, they
need people to love them through the difficul7es of growing up.
Let’s tackle these great opportuni7es like never before. Through this end-‐of-‐year giving
campaign, you have the honor to con7nue the great tradi7on of serving and loving. Help us implement NEW leadership ini7a7ves, a week-‐
long Spring Break service project right here in the urban district of Phoenix, and expand our Peru missions trip from a 1 week trek to a
month long experience.
You have the power to bring important change to each student’s life. When you
$40 a month supports one student
for a year but impacts their life
forever.

What does the Young Life College leadership program have to do with a national bookstore? Ever meet someone who, once they found
the Good News, inspired you with every
day of their faith journey as they go
through life’s ups and downs? Bree Cerfus
is one of those young people; it is a joy to
watch her life transform right in front of
our eyes. In the last two years, Bree has
had to face unhealthy rela7onships, poor
self-‐esteem, and daily cri7cism for
choosing to follow Jesus. Instead of
surrendering, Bree is choosing to step out
in faith to deepen her pursuit of Jesus.
Bree returned to college this year, and
worked hard to enter ASU’s English
literature program. She now has more than
a dream; she has a plan to become an
inspira7onal writer, a<end Phoenix Seminary to deepen her study of Jesus, and
serve on staff with Young Life.
Her story doesn’t end there. Bree credits
her hard work, along with experience as a
leader in Young Life College, for her success
at her job at a na7onal bookstore. At work,
Bree has demonstrated her leadership and
won the trust of upper management
because of skills and character developing
opportuni7es at Young Life. Recently Bree
was recognized by the CEO of her work and
in the employee newsle<er for a job well
done.
Today Bree contributes her acceptance of
Jesus Christ to the Young Life College
ministry. Our leaders and community gave
her hope, guidance, and the needed safety
net to face a dark past and pursue a bright
future. Bree’s story would not have been
possible without the faithful generosity of
so many people, like yourself.
I pray that this glimpse into a student’s life that you’ve helped touch brings you hope,
joy, and encouragement.
Do you know how much it takes to

ASU West, Downtown, GCC
each year?

Christ?
