NOW EXPERIENCE
the19TH CENTURY MANDIRA HOSPITALITY IN THE HATTON, SRILANKA
THE 21ST CENTURY
STRATHDON BUNGALOW A charmingly recreated 19th century ambience awaits travellers with 4 luxurious bedrooms and
attached bathrooms – complete with hot/cold showers. Customers can revel in the spacious living room
or in three separate lounge where they can enjoy their favorite programs on Cable TV. While lavish
spreads are best enjoyed in sheer royalty at the grand dining room, the large, beautifully laid out
garden is a sight that will instantly teleport customers back in time.
DICK OYA BUNGALOW If you like living in the past, this is where you should be. The elegant nuances of yesteryear are vividly brought
to life in this bungalow’s 4 luxurious bedrooms equipped with modern amenities such as attached bathrooms
with hot/cold bath and showers. A cozy living room, a lounge with Cable TV and a beautifully designed period
style dining room completes the perfect picture of an authentic plantation bungalow.
CRAIG APPIN BUNGALOW Turn back the clock to the comforts of another era in 5 beautiful old-worldly bedrooms and a spacious suite
that harmonize seamlessly with 21st century amenities. Regale in the warmth of the living room or stay
snug in the cosy lounge/library. And for customers’ entertainment needs, there’s always Cable TV. The
silver lining, however, is the exquisitely authentic colonial décor of the dining room. With antiquated
cuisines to match, the glory days of the past will feel like brand new.
DINING Feasts from the past. Savour the culinary wonders of good old plantation cooking. The colonial residences of yesteryear were famed
for their devoted cooks. The ‘Appu’ as they were called, were unpretentious master chefs. In keeping with that
tradition, the food at Mandira Bungalows is also lovingly prepared by our very own ‘Appu’. So whether it’s a colonial style English breakfast, a blazing BBQ at dusk or some truly authentic Sri Lankan
meals, your taste buds will be in for a royal treat. With the cold mountain air to whet your appetite, meal
times are indeed worth waiting for. However, for the diet conscious, or for those with particular nutritional
requirements, they can be catered to as well. Literally ‘home grown’, the fresh fruits and vegetables are
sourced from nearby farmss and often from the bungalow garden too. Plantation life was primarily all about simple pleasures – good, home cooked food was one of them.
Culinary traditions are still strictly observed and meals prepared the old fashioned way. However, the
ceremonial and traditional High Tea on the lawn cannot be missed – with plantation fresh tea, of course.
ACTIVITIES Though an air of peace and calm may reign over the mountains, there are plenty of activities
nearby to keep one busy, the ‘up country’ is as rich and varied as the tea it is famed for. The
unique sights and sounds of colourful festivals, ancient places of historical interest, and a wealth of
traditions from diverse cultures are a must to experience first-hand. Many colonial landmarks also abound – the historic Darawala club and the beautiful Warleigh church, for
instance. The nearby towns and villages, temples and shrines offer a novel cultural experience too. And if exploring isn’t one’s cup of tea, a serene Yoga session or an in-room spa therapy
treatment serve as perfect options for some quality “me time”.
1. MOUNTAIN BIKING Guest can try out some awesome rides off the beaten track with amazing scenery for company. 2. TREKKING For the experienced hiker or for those interested in a quiet walk exploring the nearby vistas, there
are some perfect trails to satisfy both extremes.
3. WHITE-WATER RAFTING Thrills and spills await you! Ride the rapids of Kitulgala River and leave the forest and villages behind in some of the most versatile stretches of calm and rough waters. And to make all this possible,
adequate provisions for transport, guide, entrance tickets and refreshments will be arranged.
EXPERIENCE Our brand, Zinc Journey promise much more than a room to stay for a guest. We strive to offer variety
of specialized, tailor made experiences to suit an individual’s needs and wants while enjoying the best
luxury and services with us.
EXPERIENCE A ‘TRAIN AND BIKE JOURNEY’ This is an authentic ‘Zinc Journey’ invented programme which connects two separate experiences in to a single programme to make it further exciting to experience. The programme offers a scenic train
ride in a Sri Lanka National Rail compartment from Hatton to Thalawakale or from Hatton to Watawala
(depending on the availability) and a connecting bike ride on a pre-planned route adding nature,
history, landmarks and local life to the ride.
EXPERIENCE THE LOCALITY BY FOOT There is so much to see during a refreshing hike around Mandira Bungalow. Set foot into the garden
and enjoy an early morning sighting of the world famous Adams peak. Go along the beautiful paths
and discover Sri Lankan birdlife and endemic bird species and set your eyes on exotic flora and
fauna. Then, follow the trails and walk among the green manicured tea gardens, explore the forests
and take a peek at life in doll’ss house villages. And end your little adventure with a good cup of
Ceylon Tea at Zinc Journey Mandiraa Bungalow.
