Over the years there have been generous gifts ofCalder's work to The Museum of Modem Art, which havegiven the Museum the most representative Colder col-lection in the world. Several collectors have taken theoccasion of this exhibition to contribute additionalworks: Mr. and Mrs. Sylvan Cole, Mr. and Mrs, KiousPerls, Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller, Dr. and Mrs.Scott B. Severns, and James Throll Soby. Mr. Donie!Lelong of the Golerie Moeght, Paris, hos been of greatassistance. I should like to thank in particular Mr. andMrs. Klaus G. Perls who hove, in addition, been ex-tremely helpful in all phases of the preparation of thisexhibition. Finally, I wont to thank lhe crtist himself, andhis wife Louisa James Colder. Alexcnder Calder has notonly been extremely generous on this and other occo-sions in conlributing to the collection of the Museum, buthas given me much of his time and kind assistance in thepreparation of this catalogue.
