Basics of IDEAL Industries 800 Series Power Analyzer


Objective of Demo

• Gain a understanding of the Analyzer and Software.– Interactive or real time measurements– Setting up for Data logging – Download of data and Software

• This presentation was done using a hair dryer as a load, and a line splitter with a standard DMM test lead set for quick and easy set-up. This was done for demonstration purposes to get familiar with the analyzer before attaching analyzer to an unknown circuit. (Hair dryer is not in Demo Case)


Simple Set-up To For Learning the IDEAL

Analyzer. • Attach the Black lead to N

input and the Red lead to the VL1 input of the analyzer.

• Connect the leads to the 2 test point holes on the line splitter, and plug splitter in to a 120V receptacle.

• Attach one of the clamps to the IL1, then clamp around the x10 loop of the line splitter.

• Use a hair drier as a load.


Interactive Operation

• First, the analyzer may be used in an interactive or real time mode– The interactive functions do not

hinder the performance of the analyzer mode of operation

– To begin Lets make Sure that the Analyzers is not taking “storing” data.

– You should see STOP in the lower left corner of the display



• Table Display Mode– Turn on unit and observe

Display– After a few moments

you should see on the analyzer the Table Display

• Note Measurement– Vp-n– A– KW– etc



• Large Display Mode– Press ESC– Note the reading on

the display– This display can be

configured to read any three values that the analyzer can measure

– Press Enter



• To make changes to the display you must de-select the measurement you don’t desire – Use arrow keys to Identify

measurement and press SET to select (On) or de-select(Off)

• Remember only three can be selected, so to start, you must first de-select at least one

– Press Enter to return to Large display screen



• BAR Graph Mode– Press ESC

– Note the reading on the display

– This display can be configured to read any of the three phase measurements on the analyzer

– Press Enter



• Use the Up and Down Arrow key to select your desired function {Vp-p, Vp-n, A, KW etc.} – In this example

Select A for amperes

– Enter



• Set graph ZERO value to the desired value– For example set ZERO value to 0 – Use arrow keys and the SET key to select Value

on key pad in the bottom right of screen

• Set graph Full Scale value to the desired value– For example, set Full Scale value to 130– Use arrow keys and the SET key to select Value

on key pad in the bottom right of screen.

• Return to Bar Graph display and note changes



• Waveform Display– Note the display– Phase Values are to the

left of screen– Adq is hi-lited

• Press enter to acquire new waveform data

– Use the arrow keys to select a phase measurement

– Example: A L1– Press enter



• Waveform Zoom– Note display

– Use left & right arrow keys to move cursor across waveform

– Note cursor data reading

– Press Enter



• Harmonics Bar Graph display– Note Display

Before you Begin• Initial Considerations 61-805 Unit Set-up

– Set run/stop to STOP– Check Files– Clear ENERGY value– Clear Maximum & Minimum values– Check or Set Time and Date– Name of file with desired file type

• It is a good idea to delete all files to have maximum memory available.

• Check to make sure that any files in analyzers have been transferred or backup to the Power Provision software supplied with analyzer

minutes {default is 00:15:00} to 1 minute [ 00:01:00 ]

– Record may also be triggered by level or time.

– Set Trigger to Auto

Before you Begin

• Make your phase to phase connections

• Confirm proper connection of analyzer to {L1,L2,L3}

• Check KW readings• Should not have

negative power

– Set run/stop to Run {When you are ready to start}


Software

• Insure the analyzer power communication cable is connected to the power interface adapter and the adapter is plugged in

• Insure serial cable is connected to the power interface adapter and your computer

• Connect analyzer power/interface adapter to the analyzer and adapter. – Use only the cables supplied with analyzer

• Before you begin, make sure your software matches your Analyzers communication setting.

• To view analyzers setting, go to the SETUP screen last sections

• Example:Com: 9600 /no/8/1

• If you aren’t sure check through Windows Control Panel which port is available.
