• Most flowering plants, like the bean plant, go through the same stages in their life cycle.

• As a seed grows, the roots grow out first.

• After some time, the shoot appears.

• The seed grows into a young plant.

• When leaves appear, the young plant is able to make its own food.

• As the young plant grows into an adult plant, more leaves develop to help make food.

• More roots grow to take in water and minerals from the soil.
