The Flag of England is the St George's Cross. The red cross appeared as an emblem of England during the Middle Ages and the Crusades and is one of the earliest known emblems representing England. It achieved status as the national flag of England during the sixteenth century.Saint George became the patron saint of England in the thirteenth century, and the legend of Saint George slaying a dragon dates from the twelfth

century.

England, and was adopted as a national emblem of

Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the British monarch Located in the City of Westminster, the palace is a

Originally known as Buckingham House, the building which forms the core of today's

palace was a large townhouse built for the Duke of Buckingham in 1703 and acquired by

George III in 1761 as a private residence, known as "The Queen's House". It was

enlarged over the next 75 years, principally by architects John .

Buckingham Palace finally became the official

ceremonies such as investitures and state banquets.

This picture dates from 1856. The

polychrome colour scheme has been

replaced by mainly white decoration with gold details
