•Orca 1000, 2000 and 3000 workstations, developed by Orcatech of Ottawa, a spin-off from Bell Northern Research, and led by an early workstation pioneer David John Pearson.

•The Orca 3000 was based on Motorola 68000 and AMD bit-slice processors and had Unix as its operating system.

WHAT IS GRAPHIC DESIGN?

Understanding of Computer Graphic and Graphic Design …..

Graphic design is a creative process—most often involving a client and a designer and usually completed in conjunction with producers of form (i.e., printers, signmakers, etc.)—undertaken in order to convey a specific message (or messages) to a targeted audience

•Graphic Design as a discipline has a relatively recent history, with the term "graphic design" first coined by William Adison Dwiggins 1922.

•During the Tang Dynasty (618–907) between the 4th and 7th century AD, wood blocks were cut to print on textiles and later to reproduce Buddhist texts

Graphic Design is a strategic art

meaning that it is art that is planned to serve a particular purpose. Opposite of it's cousin, Fine Art, which typically is mainly based on/from emotions, Graphic design is usually analytical/structured.

In a modern sense Graphic Design is Visual Problem Solving

"How do I get people to shop at my store?" ... "I need a billboard." What kind of store is it? What are you selling? Where are you located? Are you upscale or middle ground? These are the type of questions that Graphic Designer would ask so that they can turn your advertising problem into a successful billboard.

Typically there are two types of designers:

•Print Editorial, Layout, Logo, Creative Photography, Packaging, Illustration, 3D Modelings

• WebInternet/Websites, Film, Animation, Coding

PHOTOSHOP

A very short story

Page 19: …. A brief look Back

Photoshop has been a part of every web designer’s life since they picked up their first mouse.

For each version and major feature listed, we couldn’t help but think “did Photoshop ever exist without that feature?

On February 10th, 2010, Photoshop turns twenty.

Thomas Knoll, the PHD student, is still heavily involved with Photoshop years later

Page 20: …. A brief look Back

Thomas Knoll adopted his father’s photography habit throughout high school, while his brother, John Knoll, purchased one of the first Macs available to the public.

Fast forward to 1987: Thomas Knoll was a PHD student studying Engineering at the University of Michigan. His brother was working at Industrial Light and Magic.

February of 1990, Adobe 1.0 was released

Pen Tool

About The Pen Tool

The pen tool is one of the few tools available to you in Photoshop that works with Vector Graphics as opposed to Raster Graphics. Vector Graphics use mathematical statements and points in order to define their shape and other characteristics, and therefore are very scalable. In other words, vector graphics can be scaled to any size without ever losing quality.
