larinettists ask what books and recordings arebest suited for klezmer novices who are alreadyproficient on their instrument. Although it is

ultimately ideal to memorize any kind of folk music.it is a good idea to start collecting songbooks early onin order to become familiar with the main repertoire.Traditionally, klezmer has been passed downgenerations orally, and travelling musicians tradedtunes by playing them for each other. Thankfully,many klezmer books are now available to musicians.Clarinettists usually need to transpose one octaveplus one tone up for maximum effect andcompatibility with C instruments.

Here is an annotated list of suggestions of klezmerclarinet materials, including method books, scholarlybooks, song collections, and some recordings. All aresearchable online.
