A ANAC certificou o Upgrade XP-140 da Blackhawk Modifica-tions Inc. para os Cessna Caravan 208 e 208B. Aeronaves Brasileiras já podem se juntar à frota de 21 Caravan 140Xp voando ao redor do mundo. A atualização principal promovida pelo upgrade con-siste na instação de uma turbina Pratt & Whitney PT6A-140 nova de fábrica. Com 867 SHP a instalação desta turbina fornece um aumento de 28% na potência disponivel (44% para o Caravan pe-queno) e, está projetada para substituir as turbinas PT6A-114 (600 HP) e PT6A-114A (675 SHP) que equipam os Caravans originais não equipados com Garmin 1.000.
Além da Turbina o kit de upgrade inclui uma hélice tripá Hart-zell, também nova de fábrica, novos instrumentos analógico-digi-tais e um starter com 325 AMP. Este último permite a partida do motor com 100 graus a menos de temperatura. O upgrade foi con-cebido de maneira a manter a maioria dos componentes originais do avião. Não é necessário substituir os capôs do motor, escapa-mento, ou berço. A instalação é extremamente simples, com tempo médio estimado em 2 semanas.
Visando atender aos operadores de Caravan anfíbios a modifi-cação é compatível com a instalação dos flutuadores Wipaire mo-delos Wipline 8.000 e 8.750 no Caravan curto e 8.750 no Grand Caravan.
A estrutura foi re-certificada para os 867 SHP que podem ser utilizados durante todas as fases do voo. O aumento de potência oferece uma melhora impressionante no desempenho aumentando
por exemplo, a ISA +20 e MTOW, a razão de subida em 41% e a velocidade de cruzeiro a 12.000 pés para 183 KTAS.
Além da melhoria do desempenho o upgrade proporciona um importante aumento na segurança da operação reduzindo, por exemplo, a distância de decolagem sobre obstáculo de 50 pés em 19%.
Trata-se de uma instalação de custo atrativo, sem as incertezas de uma revisão geral, que permite ao operador trasnportar cargas altas mais rápido, com maior segurança e sem aumentar o custo da opera-ção. Além dos ganhos de desempe-nho e segurança há um importante ganho logístico, pois a instalação da turbina PT6A-140 trás o seu avião para a mesma configuração de motor dos Caravan novos.

Junho é um mês importante para a Blackhawk, pois recebemos a aprovação da ANAC para o nosso upgrade XP-140 para as aeronaves Caravan. Utilizando uma turbina PT6A-140A nova de fábrica este upgrade foi desenvolvido com o objetivo de fornecer uma alternativa mais simples a instalação da turbina PT6A-42A com a qual já trabalhamos desde 2014.
Focada em atender as necessidades dos operadores exe-cutivos e de táxi aéreo que não estejam sujeitos a condições extremas de tempe-ratura e altitude a modificação XP-140 fornece um ganho impressionante de desempenho a um custo mais baixo.
Além de melhorar o desempenho, a potência extra aumenta significativa-mente a segurança operacional, redu-zindo o risco em operações com peso alto e em fases críticas do voo.
Sob o ponto de vista da manuten-ção a instalação da turbina PT6A-140A nova de fábrica evita as incertezas da revisão geral, trás o conforto e a segu-rança da garantia do fabricante do mo-tor e padroniza o avião com as aerona-ves novas facilitando a logistica.
É importante ainda mencionar que o Starter de 325 AMP utilizado no up-grade XP-140 permite partidas 100 Graus mais frias preser-vando o motor, reduzindo os custos de HSI e dando maior tranquilidade para a operação em pistas sem apoio de solo.
O Brasil esta atravessando um momento de transição mas, o país é enorme e a aviação geral segue sendo uma ferramenta importantissima, principalmente na região amazônica onde as distâncias são medidas em dias.

June is an important month for Blackhawk as we just received ANACs
approval for our XP140 New Engine Upgrade for the Cessna Caravan. Using a factory new PT6A-140 engine, this upgrade was developed as a simpler alternative to the installation of the PT6A-42A that we have been selling since 2014.
Aiming the needs of executive and part 135 operators not flying under conditions of extreme temperature and altitude, the XP140 upgrade offers an impressive performance improvement at a lower cost.
In addition to the improved performance the additional power increases significantly the operational safety, reducing the risk at operations with high payloads and at critical phases of the flight.
From the maintenance standpoint, the installation of the factory new PT6A-140 engine avoids the uncertainties of overhaul, offers the comfort and safety of a full warranty from the engine manufacturer and standardizes the aircraft with the factory new aircraft simplifying the logistics.
It is also important to mention that the 325 AMP starter generator used on the upgrade
allow starts 100°C cooler, reducing HSI costs and giving you peace of mind when operating from runways without ground support
Brazil is crossing a period of transition but, it is a large country and general aviation continues to be a highly important tool, mainly in the Amazon region where the distances are measured in days.
In northern Brazil the 135 operators are essential to haul cargo and people and to supply fast access to medical attention to remote regions. The consolidation of the Systematic Air Lines (LAS) system tends to consolidate this market and create new opportunities.
We are still close to the Brazilian market working with commercial operators so they can, after this challenging times, consolidate and expand. With a large fleet of piston aircraft and more than 50 Caravans flying in the region the potential can’t be questioned.

The XP140 upgrade from Blackhawk Modifications Inc. for the Cessna Caravan 208 and 208B just received ANAC’s approval. Brazilian aircraft now can join the 21 XP140 flying around the world. The main feature of the upgrade is the installation of a factory new PT6A-140 Engine from Pratt & Whitney. With 867 SHP, this engine installation increases the available power 28% (44% for the short body Caravan) and, it was designed to replace the PT6A-114 (600 SHP) and PT6A-114A (675 SHP) engines of non G-1000 equipped stock caravans.
In addition to the engine, the upgrade kit includes a factory new three blade propeller from Hartzell, new digital/anaglog engine gauges and a new 325 AMP starter generator. This larger starter allows for starts 100°C cooler. The upgrade was conceived to use the majority
of the aircraft original components. It is not required to replace the engine cowls, exhaust or engine mount. The installation is extremely simple and takes an average of two weeks.
Aiming at the operators of floatplanes, the upgrade is compatible with the installation of Wipaire floats. Wipline float models 8000 and 8750 are approved for the short caravan and model 8750 is approved for the Grand Caravan.
The airframe was re-certified for the 867 SHP and the full power can be utilized during all phases of flight. The extra power offers an impressive performance improvement increasing, for instance, the climb rate 41% at ISA plus 20 and MTOW and the cruise speed at 12,000 ft to 183 KTS .

operational safety reducing the takeoff distance over a 50’ obstacle in 19%
It is a very cost effective upgrade, without the uncertainties of overhaul that allows the operator to haul heavy payloads faster, more safely and with better operating costs. In addition to the safety and performance improvements there is an important logistic gain as the installation of the PT6A-140 engine retains the same operating configuration of the Caravan.
