By Eve Drysdale, 3 rd class On Friday 3 rd of February we went to see the Garda Band who played for the children’s official opening of our school. They had instruments such as the Saxophone, French Horn, Flute, Keyboard, Trumpet, Electric Guitar and Drums. They played songs such as Cartoon Symphony, The Simpsons, Recess and solo pieces. We got to do a quiz about how many instruments we could remember from the start, and we got them all right so we had no homework on Monday (Yippee Yay). We also learned about woodwind, percussion and rhythm instruments! There were also two songs - “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble (a lot of the kids said that it was better than Michael Buble himself) and the other song was “Galway Girl”. So the Garda Band got two of the teachers (Ms. O’Toole and Ms. Prendiville) up to dance along. Then they played the song “Head Shoulders Knees and Toes” and got all the teachers up to dance along (they made a right fool of themselves!) It was Ms. O’Toole’s birthday the next day so we got her up to conduct the band. They played absolutely brilliantly! We all had a great time at the concert. Thank you Garda Band! By Aoife Dardis, 4 th Class On Friday the 3 rd of February The Garda Band came to our school. They played a lot of different show theme songs like the Pink Panther, Recess, The Simpsons and lots others. Some of the Gardas showed us their instruments and what family they came from. The even got Ms. O’Toole up to conduct the band and one of the Gardaí got up and sang a Michael Buble song. At the end, they sang the Galway girl. Everyone got up and danced around. We had great fun! Thank you Ms. McGowan!
