Use of OTS• The second most common shot used was an

over the shoulder shot, focusing on one persons reaction. This is useful to see what the actor sees, putting the   audience in their position. As you can see, this shot helps to show expression and response, the camera focused on the rule of thirds making the actor the only possible thing for the audience to focus on. Used in interviews.

HIGH ANGLE SHOT

ETHICS

• Do not treat people as if they are things while photographing .

• Do not invade anybody’s privacy except when it is necessary for depicting certain social situations.

• Ask for permission when coming near to subject

Page 26: . Camera Shots There are 3 main types of shots Long shot. Medium shot. Close-up shot.

Treat all subjects with respect and dignity. Give special consideration to vulnerable subjects and compassion to victims of crime or tragedy. Intrude on private moments of grief only when the public has an overriding and justifiable need to See.

GIVE YOUR SUBJECT SPACE TO LOOK INTO

LOOKING ROOM

Page 28: . Camera Shots There are 3 main types of shots Long shot. Medium shot. Close-up shot.

If the person (and it works with animals too) you are photographing is looking in one direction or even if their head is pointing in that direction it is best to place them on the opposite side of the frame.

Looking room is the space between the subject's face and the edge of the screen. More specifically, looking room is the space on the side the subject is looking toward.

Page 31: . Camera Shots There are 3 main types of shots Long shot. Medium shot. Close-up shot.
Page 32: . Camera Shots There are 3 main types of shots Long shot. Medium shot. Close-up shot.

The looking room rule is this: There should always be a little MORE room on the side the subject is looking toward.

Headroom: Enough room for the subject's head. Space around their head yet not too much. Correct headroom gives the subject just enough space around their head to make them look comfortable.
