Feature Exhibitions:

ANSELM KIEFER Sprache der Vögel, 1989 Germany

Sprache der Vögel is a stunning 3 ton sculpture by renowned German artist Anselm Kiefer. The sculpture is indicative of Kiefer’s reoccurring themes of material and ideological decay. The work is comprised of giant-sized books made from sheets of

lead on top of which the artist has placed a pair of 17 foot long

lead wings demonstrating the artist’s ongoing struggle with history, collective memory loss and defective backwards vision.

RICHARD LONG Norfolk Ellipse, 2003UK

Since the late 1960’s, Richard Long has brought organic elements such as sticks and stones into gallery and museum spaces. The Norfolk Ellipse is a 23 foot long oval, comprised of a single layer of flint and chalk.

WILLIAM TUCKER The Contract, 1978UK

This season the Margulies Collection has collaborated with the sculptor William Tucker to bring together a series of six steel and wood sculptures constructed in the 1970’s. William Tucker, born in Cairo in 1935, read history at Oxford before turning to sculpture in the late 50’s. He, and other British sculptors of the “post-Caro” generation, investigate, in their work, the formal and physical elements of sculpture and also the experience of perceiving it.

DOUG AITKEN Fountain (earth fountain), 2012 USA

Well known American mixed-media artist Doug Aitken conceived 'fountain (earth fountain)', as a tabletop sculpture. Letters spelling the word 'art' are the base of a cascading thick liquid, resembling either chocolate or a kind of earthly sludge.

DAVID ELLIS AND ROBERTO LANGE True Value (Paint Fukette), 2011USA

The kinetic sound installation, True Value, is a collaborative work between sculptor David Ellis and sound artist Roberto Lange. In this work, a seemingly discarded pile of paint cans comes alive with movement and sound.

NATHALIE DJURBERG Madeline the Brave, 2006 Sweden

Nathalie Djurberg’s Madeline the Brave is a stop-action clay animated film. The darkly comical video dramatizes humans’ primal urges, specifically the female experience.

LEANDRO ERLICH Elevator Pitch, 2011Argentina

Argentine artist Leandro Erlich applies architectural techniques combined with video projection to his sculptural installations. For Elevator Pitch, Erlich built a set of elevator doors into a wall, which seem unremarkable until the doors open to reveal passengers in an elevator.

KADER ATTIA De Repair, 2012 Algeria

Kader Attia is a multimedia artist, who first gained international recognition at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. The Repair from Occident to Extra-Occidental Cultures is a large installation in which the artist explores the concept of the repair of objects in their original context investigating the mixing of European and non-European cultures. De Repair was presented at this year’s dOCUMENTA (13).

Barbara Probst is a German born photographer and contemporary artist based in New York. She has been the subject of numerous solo exhibitions and her work is included in the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection. Probst’s images use multiple points of view, which challenge photography’s standard concept of decisive moment.

WAEL SHAWKY Cabaret Crusades, The Horror Show File, 2012 Egypt

On display at the Collection are eight photographs from artist Wael Shawky’s film installation, Cabaret Crusades.
