Many cultures believed that dreams came from an outside source like gods or spirits.Egyptian

Dreams carried messages from good or bad spirits

Dreams were opposites-happy dreams=disaster and nightmares=better times to come

When a person was having troubles in their life and wanted help from god, they would sleep in a temple, the next morning a priest, the Master of the Secret Things, interpret the dreams
