Moving into increasingly deeper waters has been a major trend in the development of offshore oil and gas discoveries. As discoveries on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) called for solutions for water depths in excess of 200 – 300m development of floaters and SPS-SURF solutions became increasingly important Compared to fixed platform solutions.

The Norwegian oil & gas industry met this domestic challenge through R&D, feasibility studies and technology development and this resulted in innovative solutions initially qualified for field developments on the NCS.

It also resulted in a cluster of suppliers and service providers as well as companies with marine operations capability, required to implement the solutions in the field.

SPS-SURF solutions will continue to play an important role as fields are to be developed in deeper and more remote areas – as well as for the development of marginal fields tied back to shore, fixed or floating hubs covering larger areas.

Over the last 20 years Norwegian-based SPS-SURF companies has faced even bigger technical challenges in international markets and, through their deliveries, been recognized as a world class cluster. This catalogue presents the Norwegian SPS-SURF Cluster with its significant growth of SME companies as well as ship-owners moving into marine operations.

SPS – SURF Categories

The catalogue presents Norwegian Energy Partner companies and their capabilities in SPS-SURF area as well as a matrix for a quick overview of their capabilities. The main categories used in this capability matrix are:

Engineering & Technical Services: Subsea and SURF technologies are highly specialized with particular demands on engineering & technical services; covering services from multiphase flow simulations, total system studies, pipeline and subsea architectural design to detailed installation and tie-in studies and also technical support services ensuring technical integrity of the subsea assets, a category primarily for companies providing these services as primary business.Subsea Production Systems (SPS): These hardware systems can range in complexity from a single satellite well tied back to a fixed platform or a floating installation, to several wells on a template or clustered around a manifold and producing to a fixed or floating production facility. Subsea Production Systems include seabed located hard-ware, from wellheads and X-mas trees to templates, manifolds and connection systems for flowlines and risers, as well as potential subsea power, separation and boosting systems. Also specialized equipment like tooling for installing and maintaining the systems and working over the wells are included. This is a category primarily for companies providing SPS hardware including the required engineering to deliver it. Umbilicals, Risers & Flowlines: This covers the hardware elements required to connect the subsea systems to shore, a fixed platform or a floating unit. These categories are for companies providing hardware including the required engineering to deliver it. Marine Operations and Intervention: The installation of SPS - SURF hardware and the servicing of it throughout its life cycle requires marine installation and/or intervention. Servicing requires deployment of tooling, RIVs etc. from intervention vessel.

This catalogue showcases an innovative cluster of NORWEP partners covering the complete subsea architecture required for development of oil and gas discoveries in deepwater. They provide hi-tech solutions in a complementary and competing environment and are increasingly important for the sustainability of the Norwegian oil & gas supplier and service industry.

ABB

ABB is a pioneering technology leader in electrification products, robotics and motion, industrial automation and power grids, serving customers in utilities, industry and transport & infrastructure globally. Continuing a history of innovation spanning more than 130 years, ABB today is writing the future of industrial digitalization with two clear value propositions: bringing electricity from any power plant to any plug and automating industries from natural resources to finished products. As title partner of Formula E, the fully electric international FIA motorsport class, ABB is pushing the boundaries of e-mobility to contribute to a sustainable future. ABB operates in more than 100 countries with about 135,000 employees.

ABB Subsea SolutionsFor over 30 years ABB has been a leading innovator in developing the next generation of subsea technologies. During that time ABB has delivered variable speed drive systems and transformers to some of the largest and most advanced offshore developments in the world. We will continue to support our customers’ long-term sustainable development by providing subsea power that go deeper and longer, and reliable communication, monitoring and control for future subsea factories.

Subsea power solutionsABB is a leading supplier of power solutions to the oil and gas industry and offers a range of specialized electric power systems, drives and service for critical subsea production equipment.Producing oil and gas from reservoirs located at long distances from land is a costly proposition that presents many challenges to offshore operators. Subsea installations situated far from shore or remote platforms can be a very cost-efficient solution, as it may eliminate the need for a fixed or floating topside installation. To help operators achieve efficient electric power supply and controlat long step-out distances, ABB offers total subsea power solutions with highly developed electrical products and associated services tailored for subsea production applications.

Why ABB?• We are an innovator in subsea power solutions

and have been involved in the development of subsea equipment and systems for many years

• Our studies on subsea components began in 1984

• We delivered the first commercial subsea transformer in 1998

• ABB Ability solutions which enable oil and gas companies to explore deeper resources and increase profitability and reliability of operations through process controls that communicate with, and automate, the equipment operating on the seabed.

Subsea automationABB supplies ultra-high-speed controllers for demanding subsea applications through to highly flexible human-machine interface (HMI) solutions for seamless integration to topside control systems. Its System 800xA distributed control system integrates subsea and topside equipment and allows engineers to run their entire operation from one screen. It also enables remote communication and monitoring and control operations for subsea factories. Engineers can manage entire operations from a modern onshore control room that may be some 600 km away. To keep pace with these developments, ABB is continuously refining its technology. For example, previously the trend was to separate distributed (DCS) and master control systems (MCS). As the industry matures, operators are moving to a more cost-efficient integrated version, and although ABB still delivers DCS, MCS and standalone systems, the company is increasingly developing its products to meet that need. And, to solve the interoperability problem posed by different IT protocols, ABB remains active in MDIS (The MCS-DCS Interface Standardization network) – a group that is working towards standardized and streamlined interfaces.

Tomorrow’s subsea solutionsToday the demand is for subsea electrical power supply system’s able to transmit, distribute and control electrical power in the megawatt range. ABB is designing systems that can transmit electrical power to every location requiring energy via a single subsea power cable, as opposed to the present-day use of individual cables to carry power separately to subsea consumers.

ABB’s new subsea AC power distribution system will enable up to 100 MW from shore to be transmitted up to 600 km, to power equipment at depths of up to 3,000 m. By 2019, the target is to have developed subsea power distribution such that all power system components including the transformer, switchgear and medium voltage drive, are located subsea. The power is then distributed to multiple applications such as pumps, compressors and boosters.

NOV - Seabox

SUBSEA PROCESSING

Contact person: Torbjørn HegdalTitle: Business Development ManagerE-mail address: [email protected] website: nov.com/seabox

Seabox AS, a part of National Oilwell Varco, provides solutions for subsea water treatment for increased oil recovery. Through the patented Seabox™ subsea water treatment module and SWIT™ technology seawater can be treated to any desired specification, including low salinity, directly on the seabed. Our technology provides our customer with a flexible approach to water treatment and injection. Unlimited access to seafloor provides space and capacity for implementing water treatment with any capacity and water quality when and where needed. The technology, enables a step change in reservoir and asset management, accelerating production and increasing recovery. Total investments and cost of production facilities will be significantly reduced.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICESThe Seabox™ subsea water treatment module is installed on the seafloor, where the module treats raw seawater and feeds subsea injection wells or topside facilities directly. Through a twostep process, using electrolysis and a long residence time, the Seabox™ module provides disinfected water and removes basically all solids larger than 10 µm. The Seabox™ module is designed to treat 40 000 bpd of water for increased oil recovery. Moving the water treatment subsea ensures operators’ flexibility to adjust capacity needs as well as implement water injection on fields otherwise found too expensive, e.g. marginal fields. Our products can be utilized on both green- and brownfield developments.

The benefits are significant from many aspects; reduced weight and area required topside; no long reaching platform water injection wells required;

acceleration of production; increased recovery through flexible and phased deployment of the water injectors capacity required.

Our SWIT™ technology, with the Seabox™ module as its cornerstone, utilizes filtration and membrane technology to tailor the water qualities. We can provide our clients any type of water quality fitted to their reservoir requirements – particle-free, low salinity or low sulfate water. Through extensive research, we can offer a solution that reduces the need for maintenance without having to compromise on performance. All done subsea.

SubseaDesign

SubseaDesign (SD) is an engineering, design and fabrication company providing equipment and services for the oil and gas industry. SD represents a high level of competence and experience gathered by the senior employees from many years in central positions in the oil and gas industry. The company is based in Lierbyen, one-hour drive from Oslo Airport. Annual revenue in 2018 was 20 MUSD and the headcount was 50 employees.

PRODUCTSSeAlign misalignment connectorTraditional subsea connections for rigid pipe spools require large bending moments for align-ment during tie-in and connection, introducing high stresses in the piping. These stresses reduce the available capacity for operational loads from pressure and thermal expansion. The spools must be designed with the required flexibility to accom-modate these loads. While misalignment flanges for diver assisted make-up have been on the market for some time, SeAlign is the only ROV operated misalignment connector currently available.SeAlign connection system, allowing up to 3 degrees permanent misalignment. Sealing contact pressure is maintained for all misalignment angles and not affected by external loads as seal ener-gizing is fully displacement controlled.Using the SeAlign connection system opens for design of shorter tie-in spools. Significant savings on vessel time, vessel size and hardware cost can be realized. The benefit may also be realized as relaxed fabrication tolerances and simplified designs, e.g. for compact pigging loops and flow control modules.

Wellhead Load Relief (WLR)During drilling, completion and work over opera-tions, cyclic loads are transferred through BOP stack and into the wellhead. SD’s WLR system opens for continued drilling on existing wellheads with limited rest fatigue life.SD has delivered many WLR systems (used on totally 65 wellheads as per March 2019)In all these projects, SD has taken the full system responsibility of the WLR system including BOP attachment, tensioners, wires, support structures, suction anchors and clump weights.SD also performs required calculations of line forces, WLR efficiency, layout drawing and struc-tural calculations of BOP/template based on input of riser forces, well stiffness, template stiffness and soil characteristics. SD also assist in Class approval of the BOP with attachment points, if required.

The WLR may be anchored on the template structure or on the seabed using clump weights or suction anchors.

Subsea EngineeringSubseaDesign also carry our general subsea engineering and equipment design, either as engi-neering only or as EPC. We are recognized among our clients as a flexible problem solver delivering high quality products on-time to budget. Typical examples are:• Collet connectors• Hydraulic couplers• PLR’s• Templates

Trelleborg Offshore

Trelleborg Offshore is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions that seal, damp and protect critical applications in harsh and demanding environments. We have 120 years of experience as well as dedicated and knowledgeable people providing performance at every level. Trelleborg Offshore has a global presence with many class leading manufacturing facilities around the world.

Since 1896 we have taken advantage of the well- known rubber properties to evolve the company from producing footwear into supplying highly engineered products. Our competence has been reined into advanced polymer technology, serving the worldwide market with corrosion- and fire protection and thermal insulation together with moulded products.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICESThermal insulation is necessary to avoid formation of hydrate plugs and wax build-up in subsea structures. The build-up begins when the oil or gas composition temperature is not maintained and begins to cool. Without thermal insulation the cold seawater rapidly cools down the oil, forming hydrate or wax blockages making it impossible for a safe flow.During shutdown the extra insulation gives sufficient time for:• “Short time” inspection of the pipe or equipment• Time to solve production problems• Time for methanol or glycol injection

Trelleborg Offshore Norway offers a range of materials for wet insulation systems worldwide: Vikotherm R2 (Rubber)Vikotherm® S1 (Silicon)Vikotherm® P7 (Polyurethane - PU)Vikotherm®G3 (Glass syntactic Polyurethane – GSPU)Vikotherm® PP (Polypropylene)Vikotherm® PT (Polypropylene tape)

To meet our customers’ needs, our cutting-edge solutions can be used for rigid risers, flexible risers, flowlines, subsea structures, XMT, manifolds, jumpers, spools, tie-in structures and insulation covers. We are highly experienced in developing tailored solutions combining the highest level of performance and competitiveness and we are in constant contact with our customers in order to define their particular requirements. The innovation process is conducted on three levels:• Basic know-how in the physics and chemistry of

polymers• Experience and knowledge of polymers
