  • Sanctity of Life Human Trafficking Training Activity

For the past several years the Archdiocese has worked close-ly with the NJ Coalition Against Human Trafficking. The Coalition is sponsoring a training and outreach mobilization activity on Sunday, May 31st at the Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest in Whippany from 1:00-3:00 p.m.. Dur-ing the training the participants will learn about S.O.A.P (Save Our Adolescents from Prostitution) and how to ap-proach hotels and motels. Teams will take packets for hotels which will include photos of missing local kids, and explain the warning signs of sex trafficking, offering free bars of soap labeled with the national human trafficking hotline number and making them aware of their county law enforcement liaison. This event is open to participants aged 16 and older. This campaign has proved very successful for other parts of the country. For more information and to register please visit:

    Coffee, snacks Friendship & Community

Come and take some time to meet and mingle with your fellow Catholic worshippers. Our Sunday wor-ship is also a time to build community, so necessary in a society that shuns community, family, friend-ship, and unity in faith.

“Tell the world of His Love” A special thanks to the Fil-Am Ministry and all their volunteers for making our Annual Novena to the Blessed Mother and the International Potluck Supper such a wonderful experience. A great time was had by all and the prayers offered daily are a great grace for the parish. May God continue to bless us with such graces and love.

“Peace be with you.” This past week, on Monday there was an article in the Record (an AP release) stating that the Holy Father called Mahmoud Abbas, the Palistinian president, an Angel of Peace. Mr. Abbas was present in Rome to be at the canonization of two Palestinian women: Marie Alphonsine Ghattas and Mariam Baouardy. It is the custom of the Pope to give a medal of the Angel of Peace to heads of state. In handing this medal the Pope is quoted as saying to Mr. Abbas, "Lei sia un angelo della pace". The AP translated this inaccurately as, "You are an angel of peace." A more accurate translation would be: Be an angel of peace or You could be an angle of peace. The misinterpretation of the Pope's intentions has caused a ripple around the world. I hope people could understand that Christ calls us all to be angels of peace, his peace, the peace the world cannot give. Before Christ ascended into heaven he greeted his Apostles with the words: Peace be with you. This expression causes us to wonder what is this peace he gives to us. World peace is a wishful sentiment and peace in the family is a worthy endeavor, but the true peace Christ gives us is the reconciliation with the Creator. Man has been opposed to God from the begin-ning. It was necessary that we be free to love God, but this free-dom also allows us to disobey, to sin even to the point that we think ourselves to be gods. Since the fall of man, we have been at enmity with God. As much as we have loved him and worshipped him, we have turned away from him and worshipped other "gods". Christ came and died on the cross and by his blood we have been redeemed so that we could be one with God, that is at peace with the Creator. In the Sacrament of Confession, just before the priest absolves us, he says, "may God give you par-don and peace". His peace therefore is reconciliation. Likewise we are at enmity with our fellow human be-ings. We offend one another, we hurt each other, we even hate to the point of slander, ostracization, murder and war. When our leaders talk of peace they usually mean peace between nations, but this peace will not occur until there is peace with God be-cause until we know that peace, we will not be ready to forgive or ask forgiveness of our enemies; until there is forgiveness there will be no love amongst neighbor and so no peace. There is the saying no justice, no peace. But what is justice? Justice is forgiveness. Jesus justified us when he forgave us. The just one, Jesus, justified the unjust, us sinners. So if we seek true and lasting peace with our neighbors, our enemies and amongst na-tions, then we need to forgive and to love, not ignore and toler-

ate. The hurts are real and must be acknowledged be-fore they can be forgiven and the idea of toleration lasts only as long as we can tolerate, but love is that divine virtue which is eter-nal. Pax Christi, Fr. Paul
