!" The Lagardère group must incorporate sustainable development into the production processes of its various businesses and the day-to-day activities of its subsidiaries, assume the responsibilities that relate specifically to its diversified media activities, in which digital technology is leading to fundamental change, and meet the increasing expectations of stakeholders. These are the challenges to be met by the Lagardère group.
The Lagardère group’s strategic priorities in terms of CSR
Lagardère’s CSR policy is now centred around five strategic priorities:
 promoting access to culture and entertainment;
 supporting corporate efforts to advance diversity and social transformation;
 ensuring responsible management of the paper cycle and digital expansion;
 strengthening sustainability of products, sites, content and services;
 guaranteeing high standards of business ethics.
Each of these priorities commits the Lagardère group to actions that it is pursuing as part of a continuous improvement approach.
Promoting access to culture and entertainment
 Accessibility of content, products and events.
 Protection, support and education for young people.
 Media education, raising awareness about social issues and sustainable development.
 Freedom of expression, content diversity, pluralism of ideas, defending the written word and authors, promoting reading.
Supporting corporate efforts to advance diversity and social transformation
 Choosing talent to reflect diversity in society and our markets.
 Supporting employees throughout their career.
 Encouraging and promoting talent.
 Developing close relations with employees.
Lagardère / 2014-2015 Milestones - 21
Ensuring responsible management of the paper cycle and digital expansion
 Responsible management of the paper cycle (using certified and recycled paper, production, management of unsold copies).
 Responsible management of digital expansion (data protection, protection of intellectual property, management of waste electrical and electronic equipment).
Strengthening sustainability of products, sites, content and services
 Sustainability of buildings and businesses.
 Impact of operations on consumer health and safety.
Guaranteeing high standards of business ethics
 Ethics, Code of Conduct.
 Compliance, tools and procedure.
 Responsible procurement.
Within each division, the CSR strategy is implemented by a body that works closely with the Executive Committee.
At Group level, the Sustainable Development Department – reporting to Thierry Funck-Brentano, Co-Managing Partner of Lagardère SCA – co-ordinates a steering committee in which several Group-wide departments are represented (including Human Resources, Communications, Purchasing, Legal, Risk, Finance, IT and the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation), as well as each division’s sustainable development managers.
In 2015, the Lagardère group intends to develop discussion with its stakeholders.

Responsible procurement: another step forward with Ecovadis
Following the implementation in 2013 of the responsible supplier charter – a commitment made by our suppliers to respect CSR rules – we took another step forward in 2014 with the signing of a group partnership agreement with Ecovadis.
This concerns going even further in terms of selecting new suppliers meeting more stringent CSR criteria and helping our existing partners to make progress. The new approach will consist of Ecovadis sending out CSR questionnaires to suppliers.
After analysis, Ecovadis will assess these suppliers and give them scores. Our procurement officers will use these assessments in choosing new suppliers, or for managing their usual partners.
We believe that this is an effective way of enabling our suppliers and thus our entire upstream logistics chain to progress towards behaviours that are more respectful of social, societal and environmental issues.

Hachette Livre International innovating for the environment
In 2014, Hachette Livre International made an undertaking to reduce the carbon footprint of textbooks by improving the procedure for sending specimen copies to educators in more than 100 countries. Each year, from March to May, air freight relating to sending out these books adds to a textbook’s carbon footprint. Due to manufacturing times, specimens need to be sent by air – which is the means of transport with the highest greenhouse gas emissions – in order to allow educators to choose their textbooks for the coming academic year. Textbooks intended for students for the start of the new academic year are transported by sea.
Hachette Livre International has therefore created an innovative website (MonSpecimen.com) that allows for rapid, personalised, flexible and secure viewing of all news about Hatier, Didier and Foucher publications by educators in relevant countries, as well as a selection of educational resources to download.
This new solution, in addition to being economically advantageous and useful for educators, aims to reduce the carbon footprint of distribution relating to this field of publishing by one-third within the next three years.
Harmony Day: celebrating cultural diversity at Lagardère Services in Australia
Across its entire network of sales outlets, LS travel retail Pacific is determined to promote a culture of integration that celebrates the diversity of its employees. We are very proud of the fact that more than 30 different languages are spoken at our stores: the flag of each country identifying each additional language spoken is clearly displayed on our employees’ name badges.
In 2014, LS travel retail Pacific organised Harmony Day, an initiative across all of Australia that celebrates diversity in the workplace through the sharing of “homemade” dishes
and finding out about different cultural traditions. This is a day dedicated to respecting multiculturalism for everyone who calls Australia their home, from Aborigines to new arrivals from all over the world. Our involvement in Harmony Day helps us to learn and understand how all Australians – whatever their origins – belong to the same nation.
With a head office made up of more than 20 nationalities, our team was encouraged to bring in traditional “homemade” dishes and share them with everyone, creating an enjoyable occasion of integration and mutual respect.

Vivibene: health at the heart of Airest’s concerns in Italy
How can we reconcile our commitments in terms of CSR with our business activities?
At Airest, a Lagardère Services subsidiary with over 200 airport food outlets, we have found the solution by offering a selection of healthy meals for travellers in partnership with Italy’s famous Umberto Veronesi foundation.
Created in 2003, the purpose of the Umberto Veronesi foundation is to support scientific research. The foundation sponsors promising researchers and top-level projects in the fields of oncology, cardiology and neuroscience.
As part of the Vivibene (“live well”) project, Airest offers travellers menus prepared by nutrition specialists from the Umberto Veronesi foundation, made using high quality ingredients for a high concentration of nutrients with health benefits.
The Vivibene project has three main aims:
 to inform travellers about food;
 to help to improve public health;
 to support scientific research.
Happiness Index: Elle in search of happiness for women
In 2014, we wanted to take action on the issue of the role of women in society within the framework of global initiatives in areas such as fashion and beauty, bringing together all or some of the 45 editions of Elle magazine from around the world with the aim of giving the network a new impetus.
Following the creation of the Elle Women in Society blog, on 8 March 2014 we launched the Happiness Index, a questionnaire on women and happiness, disseminated on websites in 42 countries. A total of 24,000 readers answered 35 questions about their aspirations, challenges and priorities. The main aim was
to provide editorial material for all editions of Elle magazine around the world.
In some countries such as Japan, teams chose to present the Happiness Index at the Women In Society event. The results of this worldwide consultation have also been the subject of a video featuring the editors in chief of different editions in connection with the results for their country.
We are hoping to continue with this initiative in 2015 via a number of projects, including the creation of a portrait gallery of women from all over the world.

Boston Marathon World Run: an interactive race raising funds for charity
Developed by Lagardère Unlimited, the Boston Marathon World Run (BMWR) app is a complete experience for running enthusiasts who can participate virtually in the Boston marathon wherever they are by completing the distances of their choice and sharing them.
This digital platform offers runners all over the world the opportunity to join a community that celebrates activity, fitness and healthy living. It includes a feature that enables participants to commit to walking or running a certain distance
for the One Fund Boston charity, created after the 2013 attacks. Users receive a free personalised race bib, their race certificate and a digital badge that they can share once they have completed their distance.
Launched in February 2014, the BMWR app was downloaded 27,000 times in two months. It was also named “Best New App” and was one of the top-ranking free apps on Apple’s App Store.
2004-2014: 10 years of openness to others...
In the space of 10 years, the Elle Foundation has turned words into action by supporting more than 75 projects in France and worldwide via collaborations with other foundations, as well as thanks to the commitment of around 150 Lagardère Active employees. We are very proud of the corporate philanthropy award we won in 2012.
In spring 2014, we developed a collaborative platform in order to share our projects and commitment, as well as to recruit volunteers and raise funds for the associations we support.
At the heart of promoting diversity in 2014, the Elle Foundation was a partner of the “PasserElles” campaign devised by Mozaïk RH, which enabled us to support 10 young women through their experience of entering the working world. Our partnership with the “Sport dans la Ville” association for the “L dans la Ville” campaign resulted in the launch of the “J’aime ma cité” editorial project with two Paris Match journalists and may be published on the ParisMatch.com website.
