Primary Care?

Health care provided by a medical professional with whom a patient has initial contact and by whom the patient may be referred to a specialist.

Secondary Care?

Medical care provided by a specialist or facility upon referral by a primary care.

Tertiary Care?

Highly specialized medical care usually over an extended period of time that involves advanced and complex procedures and treatments performed by a medical specialists in the state-of-the-art facilities.

Case: Pregnant Women

If a pregnancy comes into term a pregnant women in a community may go to a RHU (Rural Health Unit) for her delivery. Also available in the RHU is the Prenatal Check-up. If the position of the baby is Breech which means the buttock or legs are the presenting part this time the pregnant women is referred to a Secondary Care which they can manage this situation.

Case: Pregnant Women

There are many reasons a pregnant women will be refer to a secondary facilities from a primary facilities (RHU) like; increased blood, a multipara, 34 years old primester and 18years old below primester.
