Dialogue Structure

• Participants will be broken into smaller groups with an even number of people to go into rooms.

• For each question, we will be switching partners in a “speed dating” fashion

• Each pair will have 5-6 minutes to discuss the question presented by the moderator

• Once time is up, your group moderator will debrief the session and make final remarks.

Race: a group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution

Ethnicity: Membership of an ethnic group tends to be associated with shared cultural heritage, ancestry, history, homeland, language or dialect

Prejudice: preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience

Racism: the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races

Equality: the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities.

Equity: the quality of being fair and impartial.

Microaggresion: everyday verbal, nonverbal, and environmental slights, snubs, or insults, whether intentional or unintentional, which communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative messages to target persons based solely upon their marginalized group membership

Stereotype: a widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing
