13 Greater Kashmir SRINAGAR | January 11, 2015, Sunday Intra-Kashmir traders to meet at Kaman bridge on Jan 15 TARIQ NAQASH Muzaffarabad, Jan 10: A joint meeting of the intra- Kashmir traders from both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) is scheduled for Thurs- day (January 15) at the Cha- kothi-Uri crossing point, it has been learnt. The traders would dis- cuss various issues relating to the barter trade with zero tariff regime, including the hurdles being faced by them on either sides of the divide, sources told Greater Kash- mir. The officials concerned from both parts of the disput- ed Himalayan region would also attend the meet, which will be the fourth of its kind over the last six years, ever since the trans-LoC trade was launched in October 2008 as one more Kashmir- specific confidence building measure (CBM) between India and Pakistan. According to sources, some two weeks ago, traders in Jammu and Kashmir (JK) had made a request to their authorities that they wanted to have a meeting with their fellow businesspersons from Pakistan administered Kash- mir (PaK). The request was conveyed by the JK authorities to their PaK counterparts at a flag meeting and after a positive nod from here, January 15 was fixed for the joint meet. An official said 10 trad- ers from JK and 5 from PaK would participate in the joint meeting, to be held in the middle of Kaman Bridge over a water channel that marks the divide in Chakothi-Uri sector. Jammu Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JKJCCI) has appreciated the decision to allow the traders from both sides to discuss their mutual problems and come up with suggestions for their pos- sible solutions. “We welcome the posi- tive attitude of the author- ities on both sides… In a situation where our fellows on the other side are unable to make a call to us, such meetings become inevita- ble on regular basis,” said Ajaz Ahmed Meer, secre- tary information of the JKJCCI. “We hope the meeting will bring about valuable recom- mendations for improve- ment in the trans-LoC trade by doing away with the snags hampering the activity,” he told Greater Kashmir. Meer maintained that the trans-LoC was facing a threat as only four or five of the 21 tradable items were being traded at the moment. “It’s because the rest are not money-spinning for traders on either side and we call upon both governments to expand the list in consulta- tion with us or else this CBM may meet a silent death.” JKTDC inks pact to tap tourist market in southern states GK NEWS NETWORK Srinagar, Jan 10: In a bid to market its packages in southern states, Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corpora- tion (JKTDC) on Saturday signed a Memo- randum of Understanding (MoU) with Chennai-based Parveen Travel. Intra-Kashmir traders to meet at Kaman bridge on Jan 15

TARIQ NAQASH

Muzaffarabad, Jan 10: A joint meeting of the intra-Kashmir traders from both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) is scheduled for Thurs-day (January 15) at the Cha-kothi-Uri crossing point, it has been learnt.

The traders would dis-cuss various issues relating to the barter trade with zero tariff regime, including the hurdles being faced by them on either sides of the divide, sources told Greater Kash-mir.

The officials concerned from both parts of the disput-ed Himalayan region would also attend the meet, which will be the fourth of its kind over the last six years, ever since the trans-LoC trade was launched in October 2008 as one more Kashmir-specific confidence building measure (CBM) between India and Pakistan.

According to sources, some two weeks ago, traders in Jammu and Kashmir (JK) had made a request to their authorities that they wanted to have a meeting with their fellow businesspersons from Pakistan administered Kash-mir (PaK).

The request was conveyed by the JK authorities to their PaK counterparts at a flag meeting and after a positive nod from here, January 15 was fixed for the joint meet.

An official said 10 trad-

ers from JK and 5 from PaK would participate in the joint meeting, to be held in the middle of Kaman Bridge over a water channel that marks the divide in Chakothi-Uri sector.

Jammu Kashmir Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industries (JKJCCI) has appreciated the decision to allow the traders from both sides to discuss their mutual problems and come up with suggestions for their pos-sible solutions.

“We welcome the posi-tive attitude of the author-ities on both sides… In a situation where our fellows on the other side are unable to make a call to us, such meetings become inevita-ble on regular basis,” said Ajaz Ahmed Meer, secre-tary information of the JKJCCI.

“We hope the meeting will bring about valuable recom-mendations for improve-ment in the trans-LoC trade by doing away with the snags hampering the activity,” he told Greater Kashmir.

Meer maintained that the trans-LoC was facing a threat as only four or five of the 21 tradable items were being traded at the moment. “It’s because the rest are not money-spinning for traders on either side and we call upon both governments to expand the list in consulta-tion with us or else this CBM may meet a silent death.”

Finance Ministry proposes new tax accounting standards for businessesNew Delhi, Jan 10: To ensure con-sistency as well as clarity on taxa-tion issues, the Finance Ministry has proposed new tax account-ing standards related to income computation and disclosures by businesses.

The new draft of 12 Income Computation and Disclosure Stan-dards (ICDS), for which comments have been sought from stake-holders till February 8, is aimed at having consistency in respect of issues that come under this ambit.

This ICDS is applicable for computation of income charge-able under the head ‘profits and gains of business or profession’ or ‘income from other sources’ and not for the purpose of maintenance of books of accounts, according to the Ministry.

In the draft paper, the Ministry has suggested tax accounting standards for various matters, including those related to lease of equipment, construction-linked projects and inventory valuation.

“The premise of the tax account-ing standards is to bring in consis-tency in the tax positions being adopted by the companies... and ensure adequate disclosure of these tax positions, including any excep-tions to the same,” Vikas Vasal, Part-ner at KPMG in India, said.

The aim was also to avoid litiga-tion on some of the contentious tax issues, by bringing in clarity and mandatory disclosures, he added.

With regard to tax account-ing standards, a committee, set up by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), had submitted its first interim report in August, 2011. The final report was submitted in August, 2012. The draft standards, proposed by the panel, were placed in the public domain for comments.
