Water Skiing & Wake Boarding at its Best

It’s time to crank up your fitness program. You canbegin by adding a series of exercises to your regularprogram that will help prevent injury both on and offthe slopes. Start with movements that will give yourbody the overall strength and power it needs to build asolid base during your weeks of training, such as thesquat, deadlift, crunch and dumbbell bench press.

Try performing short intense intervals of 1 to 2minutes that mimic your effort on the slopes. Figureout your maximum heart rate [approximately 220-age]and make sure you hit about 85-90% of it by the endof each interval. Start with 10 one-minute intervalswith one-minute recovery periods between.

Recovery intervals should return your heart rate toaround 50-60% of your max heart rate. Increase yourtime by 15 to 20 seconds for each interval every weekuntil you work your way up to two minutes. If you canhandle two-minute intervals add another interval. Dothis twice per week for your best ski season ever.

KID’S KORNER4 kids & grandkids

Car Travel Games—Being in the car with your kids on a long tripcan test everyone’s nerves. Here are some ideasto keep you and the kids occupied and make themiles melt away.

Give Your Kids an Allowance for the Day—Tell them that the money is for snacks, treats, souvenirs, etc. But when the money is gone, that is all there is. Help them learn to budgettheir money and make good choices.

Let Your Kids Have a Map—Give your kids an opportunity to have theirown copy of a map of where you are going.Show them how to read the map. Every timethey ask "How much further?” have them takeout their map and see for themselves.

A License Plate Game—Spot a license plate and call out the letters onit. Then everyone tries to come up with adifferent phrase using the letters in the orderthey appear on the license plate as the firstletter of each word. For instance OHL couldbe “old house leaning” or “over hill lady.”When you can't think of any more, look foranother license plate.

Tell Jokes—Take turns telling silly jokes like knock-knockjokes or riddles. This is especially fun whenthe kids use their creativity to make up theirown jokes. Even a two-year-old can tell jokes! They may not make sense, but they sure arehilarious.

Counting Cows—Count the cows you see on your side of the car.If you pass a cemetery on your side of the car,you lose all your cows, but only if the opposingteam calls “your cows are buried!” A white horsecan count as a bonus. The team with the mostcows wins.

Count Other Stuff—Count blue vans, or count red cars, find10 horses, count MacDonald signs, billboards, police cars, water towers.

Make a Trip Journal or Scrapbook—Give everyone a big spiral bound sketchpad and a box of crayons or markers. Eachday of the trip or for each event along theway, draw a picture of what you did thatday, or draw a map of where you went, andwrite about it. You can also paste in souvenirssuch as brochures, ticket stubs and othermomentous. This is especially good for tripslasting more than a day.

Write or Collect Postcards—Get postcards at your stops to document thetrip, and to write back home to friendswhile you are gone. Bring stamps so you candrop them in the mail on the road so theywill arrive at their destination before youreturn home.

Rest Stop Athletics—Keep a ball, frisbee or jump rope in theback of your car, so when you stop at arest area, everyone can run and be free andstretch their legs.

Scavenger Hunt—Give each child a list of items to watchfor while driving. The list can be madeup ahead of time and adjusted for thescenery. Here's a sample list of items tohunt for!

• flashing red light • bus • dog • food store • railroad tracks • cop • school • bike rider

• statue • church • playground • flower garden• pickup truck • WalMart• Taco Bell• dog in a car

Hotel Rezia****

Why Bormio— Bormio's origins are linked to its thermalwaters, which have been renowned for theircurative powers since ancient times. The ninesprings are mentioned in Roman documentsdating back to the first century AD. Today thetradition continues in modern thermal baths, most notable being the Bagni Vecchi baths.

The resort's long history has given it a richcollection of architectural treasures which makeit a very interesting place to stay. Centeredaround the busy Via Roma, Bormio's oldbuildings are decorated with frescoes. It is herein the old town where you will get a taste oftrue Italian life, especially in the evenings. Here,a maze of small lanes zig and zag in alldirections where you can shop 'til you drop.

Bormio’s 5,879’ vertical drop is one of thelongest in Italy. Bormio at 10,000’ is not a vastinter-linked skiing domain, however it’s a greatplace for those who love to get to the top of themountain and cruise descents of up to 9 milesdown to the resort. The lower two thirds of theslopes are forested and serviced by snow making.Bormio, chosen to host the 2005 World CupChampionships, is part of the Alta ValtellinaLift Pass system with access to the slopes ofLivigno, Santa Caterina and San Colombano.

Trip price is based on an exchange rate of0.81. Also for the first time, we can offer airfrom San Diego and Las Vegas for anadditional $68. Superior rooms at the Reziais an additional $70.
