Making inferences
Learning Target
Making inferences using pictures, videos, and stories.
Inferences
Making inferences basically is figuring out something that wasn’t completely explained in the story!
You use clues from the story to make a GOOD GUESS about what is happening and what will happen.
When you are inferring…
You are using what you read AND what you already know to put the pieces together.
I infer by…
Thinking
about…
Clues from the text What I
already
know.
How a character handles change
and conflict
How a character feels
What a character says
The characte
r’s actions
My own experienc
es
Inferences from what we find.
There are four bags. Each bag has items in it. Looking at the items in the bag, what do the
clues tell you about where the person may be going?
Quietly, without BLURTING, write down what you believe the person will be doing after school today.
Try to get the full picture. Think about why each item is needed. Tell as much information as LOGICALLY POSSIBLE. (Don’t make up what you can’t figure out!)
