“Cultivating an Attitude of Gratitude during Lent.”

“St. Ignatius of Loyola believed ingratitude was "the cause, beginning and origin of all evils and sins." So let us seek to develop an attitude of gratitude this Lent and make it a way to live our lives well beyond these forty days.” Rev. Jim Donovan, S.J. will speak at all weekend Masses on March 4th and 5th, and conduct a Lenten Mission on March 5th at 7 p.m.

It springs to life in jaw-dropping scale by a world-class cast, spectacular special effects and live animals on stage as well as in the aisles. ALL SAINTS ACADEMY CORNER Re-Accreditation of All Diocesan

Catholic Schools

The Diocese of Paterson Catholic Schools Office is currently preparing for its re-accreditation of all schools with AdvancED. AdvancED is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that conducts rigorous, on-site external reviews of Pre-K-12 schools and school systems to ensure that all learners realize their full potential. In early April, an AdvancED review team will be visiting the Diocese of Paterson to conduct visits of schools. All Saints Academy, the only STEM-certified school in Morris County, has been selected as a review visit site. Thank you for your continued support of All Saints Academy! Please contact our school principal, Mrs. Judy Berg, at 973-334-4704 to schedule a tour and for admission information. Visit www.allsaintspar.org.

Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 26

“After the patriarchs, God formed Israel as his people by freeing them from slavery in Egypt. He established with them the covenant…so that they would recognize him and serve him as the one true God, the provident Father and just judge, and so that they would look for the promised Savior,” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 62).

On this last Sunday before Lent, the focus of our celebration shifts from what is expected of us as disciples, to God’s gracious and tender care for us. As we conclude this season of winter Ordinary Time, what better way to prepare for Lent than to reflect on how much our loving God wants us to be free of worry and cares, and to trust in God’s goodness and grace!

Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Program

This Lent we introduce the Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Program. I invite everyone to participate. Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program, offering opportunities for families to engage in the spiritual pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. It provides an opportunity for our parish to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live out the Gospel call to go to the margins and encounter those most in need. Through stories printed in the Bulletin, we will encounter people from around the world. I am excited that this is a journey that we will take as a parish community, connecting the prayer and reflections of each of our families with our global community of faith. While it is important to support local charities, it is also important to support our sisters and brothers around the world. Please take a Rice Bowl home with you. They are due back during Holy Week.

Holy Water Fonts During Lent

Q. “Should the Holy Water fonts be emptied during Lent?” A. According to the Congregation for Divine Worship, the removing of Holy Water during the season of Lent is not permitted for two reasons: 1. The liturgical legislation in force does not foresee this innovation, which, in addition to being “praeter legem” [i.e., “apart from the law”], is contrary to a balanced understanding of the season of Lent, which though truly being a season of penance, is also a season rich in the symbolism of water and baptism, constantly evoked in liturgical texts. 2. The encouragement of the Church that the faithful avail themselves frequently of the sacraments is to be understood to apply also to the season of Lent. The “fast” and “abstinence” which the faithful embrace in this season does not extend to abstaining from the sacraments or sacramentals of the Church. The practice of the Church is to empty the Holy Water fonts on the days of the Sacred Triduum in preparation of the blessing of the water at the Easter Vigil, and it corresponds to those days on which the Eucharist is not celebrated (i.e., Good Friday and Holy Saturday) [Congregation for Divine Worship, 3/14/03: Prot. N. 569/00/L]. Peace,

Fr. David

Family Night at the Movies. The series begins March 4th at 7:00 pm as we witness our own parishioners, sharing their gifts and talents performing “Jesus Christ Super Star” (1991.) This will be the first of three movies, shown during Lent, which will help us cultivate an attitude of gratitude toward being members of the family of St. Ann Church. A good will offering will be taken. The other movie night dates are: March 18th and April 1st. Don’t forget – bring a friend!
