During this Easter Season, when our readings are from the

Acts of the Apostles, we have the opportunity to

    reflect on discipleship.

As a Parish, our VISION Statement is our guide: To be a vibrant community that welcomes, prays, studies, and shares our faith...

    WHY GIVE?

So much of today’s world centers on selfishness as the path to happiness. God encourages generosity instead.

Giving is at the heart of a Christian life… just as it is at the heart of the Gospel: “Give and it will be given to you.” Luke 6:38

Through our giving, we are able to bring the love of God to life for others in very real and tangible ways. It is true discipleship. “...and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all…” Acts 2:45

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

    WAYS to GIVE

Give thanks for the blessings in your life. Give a smile...a kind word...praise...appreciation...encouragement.

Give TIME to spiritual growth and discipleship. Give TALENT by sharing your gifts in the many ministries at St. Francis.

Give TREASURE, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matt 6:21

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________

    GIVING IN TODAY’S WORLD

These past few months have been challenging for all of us as we have dealt with the changes that COVID-19 has made in our lives. St. Francis of Assisi, your Parish, is always deeply grateful for your continued financial support. If you are not yet giving automatically or through our online giving program, please consider doing so. The software is safe, secure and convenient. You won’t need to remember to mail or bring your envelope to church, and you will help us reduce administrative costs. The Reno Diocese Catholic Services Appeal is an important way to assist our brothers and sisters in Northern Nevada, especially Mission Parishes where many are suffering economically. See page #6 of this bulletin for more information. For Planned Giving, including ways to donate marketable securities and designate your gift, please see the “Give” tab of our website: www.sftahoe.org or email [email protected].

We are called to give joyfully… Our sacrifice is small in comparison to what Jesus sacrificed on the cross.

Let us give graciously and generously to Him who gave all for us.

    Helping Others by Giving

We need everyone’s participation … every gift is helpful!

“… their overflowing joy and their

extreme poverty welled up in rich

generosity. For, I testify, they gave

as much as they were able, and

    even beyond their ability. Entirely

on their own , they pleaded with us

for the privilege of sharing in this

service of the Lord’s people . And,

    they exceeded our expectations.”

    2 Cor. 8: 2-5

The Annual Catholic Services Appeal, or CSA, raises funds for various ministries and efforts of evangelization within the Diocese of Reno. These ministries are vital as we adjust to changes from COVID-19. Subsidies for Mission Parishes are especially critical as so many people have lost jobs.

Education and Other Expenses for Seminarians … the Future of our Church

Diaconate Formation and Ongoing Education for Clergy Hospital and Prison Ministries … Subsidies for Mission Parishes

Faith Formation for Children, Youth, and Adults … Newman Center for College Students

Each parish in our diocese is given a goal. Once that goal is met, any amount donated over that goal is returned to us for our use.

The St. Francis of Assisi goal for 2020 is $125,982.

So far, only 40% is pledged and only 11% of registered Parishioners have participated.

    We need YOUR help.

If you did not receive a pledge form, please contact us at 775-831-0490. Donations can be made by check or through Online Giving.

    Ayudando al Darle a Otros

Necesitamos la participación de todos ... ¡cada regalo es útil!

“... su alegría desbordante y su

    extrema pobreza se acumularon en

    una rica generosidad. Testifico que

    dieron tanto como pudieron e

incluso más allá de su capacidad.

    Totalmente solos, nos suplicaron

por el privilegio de compartir este

servicio del pueblo del Señor. Y,

    excedieron nuestras expectativas ".

    2 Cor. 8: 2-5

    Necesitamos TU ayuda.

  • Preparing for Resuming Masses (Bishop Randolph R. Calvo / May 14, 2020)

For several weeks now, I have been working with diocesan staff and parish priests in planning for the day when we can resume parish liturgies. We eagerly look forward to that day but also are exercising due diligence in making the necessary preparations. This is essential for safety. We want to make sure the worship environment is as safe

as possible following federal, state and health guidelines and recommendations. There is much to consider for there are various aspects that include social distancing in seating, sufficient supplies for necessary cleaning of surface areas, to name a few. All pastors along with parish leaders have been asked to proceed in this planning so we will be ready when the day comes that we can resume gathering together. The health and safety of all participants in our liturgies are paramount. This is nothing less than a moral obligation for us to follow. It is a matter not only of charity toward neighbor but also justice. Health and life are precious gifts from God which we are bound to safeguard. Parishes will be doing their part in respecting these protocols. Please keep this in your mind and, more importantly, in your heart for this will be a circumstance for us to heed Jesus’ command that we love one another. More information will be forthcoming from the diocese and your parishes.

My Dear Community, As you may remember, when I was asked to come to St. Francis it was as an interim administrator to finish Fr. Bill’s term, since he retired early in the year and outside of the normal cycle of assignments. I know the lingering question on many minds has been who will be the new pastor of St. Francis? I am delighted to announce that Bishop Calvo has appointed Fr. Jorge Herrera as pastor of this wonderful community. Normally assignments begin July 1st, however with things being uncertain and with the need for some stability right now, assignments are tentatively scheduled to begin September 1st. Fr. Jorge is currently the pastor of our largest parish, St. Therese of the Little Flower in Reno. He has been a priest for almost 20 years and has a great deal of experience. I personally worked closely with him as a seminarian while he was my vocation director. I can honestly say he is a good priest and a hard-working pastor, and is fluent in both English and Spanish, which will be a great blessing. I believe he is the best choice for St. Francis and I know you will find in him a caring and attentive fellow disciple. And what about me? Well, right now, only God knows. But I ask for your prayers as I continue my own journey and wait to hear about my future. For now, though, Fr. Chuck, Fr. Tom, and I continue walking with you during these challenging times. Your brother,

    Father Chris

    Padre Chris

    Fr. Jorge Herrera

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Make me a channel of your peace. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope.

Where there is darkness, only light, And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

O master, grant that I may never seek, So much to be consoled as to console, To be understood, as to understand,

To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned, In giving of ourselves that we receive,

And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

Every so often in history, the whole world seems to arrive at a crossroads, with the need to make a choice that will have a huge impact on future generations. And many times, Our Lady intervenes to help us along the way. Mary is our Mother in Heaven. She is the Queen of Angels and Saints, and she can and she does intervene powerfully in human history and in your own history if you ask her and you need her help.

We are at a crossroads today. With the current pandemic and its overreaching consequences in every area of life, we need help. We need Our Lady to intervene once again in human history. Our Lady helped the apostles pray for the coming of the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room, and she will help us today too.

And so beginning Ascension Thursday, May 21, I will lead a Marian Pentecost Novena to help us prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit on May 31, Pentecost Sunday. I will provide a Daily Novena Reflection during these days, and our intention will be to pray daily for an end to the pandemic so all the Churches can open for everyone.

All those who sign up to receive my Daily Novena Reflection will also receive a FREE copy of my new book, “Mary at the Crossroads of History.” In this book, you will learn how Our Lady is always present and working in our lives, especially when the world finds itself at a crossroads. This book is a limited edition, exclusive to Relevant Radio® and not available anywhere else.

With our Lady’s help, we can change the course of history for the better, even now during the current crisis in which we find ourselves. Let us entrust this time to our Mother Mary and watch the Holy Spirit act. You can sign up at: https://relevantradio.com/mary/

I am an acrylic painter and am doing an online special to raise money for Tahoe Family Solutions (TFS). This quote is an excerpt from their most recent newsletter:

Emergency Assistance Fund Update … At Tahoe Family Solutions, we are working hard to provide Emergency Financial assistance that includes screening, counseling, and support to individuals and families who have been furloughed or had hours cut. To date, through the TFS Emergency Fund,

118 families in total have been provided financial assistance (18 families just this week)

    $60,205.14 has been distributed

$7,250 was provided in temporary food assistance in the form of Raley’s gift cards

All paintings I am doing for the month of May, and everything on my website is being offered at a discounted price. All proceeds (materials and labor) will go to TFS. My website is at: https://jackiecimento.wixsite.com/mysite

Paintings come in sizes from 5x7 to 24x36 to fit all budgets. Want to brighten your home or office? Need a gift… why not consider a piece of original art. Everything I have is an original. If you see a painting that interests you, click on it to see the size. Go to the pricing sheet for this Special Event located on the Events page to find out the costs.

You can contact me for cost for framed paintings (I do not mark up framing). [email protected] Thank you for your support in helping Tahoe Family Solutions.—Jackie
