MAHURENGA WINEERATROTRi Board | Koroua

I am seeking re-election as your Koroua for the Rūnanga Board.

I have lived through a time when being Māori meant you were treated as asecond classcitizen, when it was illegal to speak Te Reo.

In recent times the crown finally recognised the wrongs and impact on oursovereignty and settled our treaty claims, it amazes me how our peopleand Māoridom has advanced over my lifetime.

I believe the future and the prosperity of Ngāti Toa can be built around 4main pillars;

1.       Continuous support of education initiatives2.       Medical services to take care of everyone, but focus on ourKaumatua and promote healthy life style3.       Employment initiatives that create real sustainable job opportunityfor our iwi4.       The main pillar, underpinning & supporting the above 3, is wealthgeneration strategies

It is time to consider bringing in external people who have a track recordand experience to grow an international wealth and accelerate pillarnumbers 3 & 4. The treaty settlement has given part of our sovereigntyback, and we need to make sure we invest in the right initiatives so itgrows and builds to benefit our tamariki and generations to come. Wecould look at other Iwi, for example Tainui and Ngaitahu, as examples onhow to model Ngāti Toa. It is clear to me that we need more transparency & communication withthe iwi. If you agree with this statement and vision of the 4 Pillars, then re-elect me as your Koroua representative. “Kia tuu Pakari ngai tatou nga uri o Ngati Toa Rangatira e nga wa katoa” “Let us stand tall, we the descendants of Toa Rangatira”

IHAIA ROPATATROTRi Board | Rangatahi Tane

Kei ngā wehi, kei ngā whakatiketike, tēnā mauriora ki a tātou. Ko Ihaia Ropata toku ingoa, I am 21 years old and I am interested in therangatahi seat to see what more I can hopefully do for rangatahi of NgātiToa from a core perspective. I don’t bring years of life experience nor a great list achievements, but Ido bring passion and a heart for the people of my iwi. For the past fouryears I have had the honour of running the Hui Rangatahi where I get tosee first hand the growth of our rangatahi. I have tried my best to utilisethe pouako role to compose waiata for the iwi, spark excitement withinkids to increase their reo and to bridge more mainstream school kids tothe marae. I know for sure that I am yet to find my place on the maraebut I am eager in doing my part to inspire rangatahi to start findingtheirs. In recent times, I have used waiata of our iwi to bridge different societies.Aotea College students now perform with the hui rangatahi when theopportunities come by. I am in my third year of contracting with theTeaching Council of New Zealand where their main anthem is a songfrom Takamaiterangi. It’s with a simple approach like waiata that hasforged many networks where rangatahi have been at the centre of it all.  With everything I do, I try my best to have rangatahi at the centre ofeverything. So, if chosen for the rangatahi seat on the board, I will makesure to amplify the voices of our future kin and do the best job possible.
