Writing

Today for writing you will need

to recognise the 3 types of

sentences we have learnt

about over the past fortnight

being simple, compound and

complex sentences. You will

find the information in the

‘Types of Sentences’ page

included below.

Using your knowledge about

the three different types of

sentences, you will need to

decide which column each

sentence belongs in and then

write it.

Reading Activity

Answer the following

questions:

1. What message was the

author trying to convey?

How do you know?

2. Why do you think the

author chose the setting

of the story?

Take a 10-minute Crunch and

Sip break.

Writing

Today you are going to write

your own complex sentences.

Your task is to make sure that

your sentence has the words

on the task card included and

that you have used the correct

punctuation. Use the writing

checklist picture to help you

edit your work.

Take a 10-minute Crunch and

Sip break.

Writing

Today you are going to write

your own complex sentences

using the task cards again.

However, this time you are also

going to include adverbs and

adjectives as well to make your

sentences interesting and

descriptive.

Your task is to make sure that

your sentence has the words

on the task card included and

Take a 10-minute Crunch and

Sip break.

Writing *Check in Task*

Today you are going to write

your own complex sentence

using a picture prompt. You will

need to look at the picture of

the pirates and write down as

many nouns, adjectives, verbs,

and adverbs you can think of

about the picture. This will

help you to create your

complex sentence.

On the worksheet there are

already the subordinating

conjunctions and relative

pronouns you can use at either

the beginning of your sentence

or in between the independent

and dependent clause. Once

you have brainstormed and

written down your words in

each column (try and have at

least 3 or 4 words in each), you

can use these words to make

your complex sentence.

Make sure you pick words from

each box so you have a noun,

adjective, verb, and adverb in

your sentence.

Warm Up

How many ways can you

represent the number 38?

Review Place Value Columns

When using a strategy like the

split strategy, you partition

numbers into their place value,

add the place values

separately, and then combine

the numbers to find the total

sum.

We will review place value and

partitioning so we can move on

to more difficult strategies.

show the numbers:

1. Place these numbers in order

of least value to most value.

2. What is the value of the 5 in

153?

3. What is the value of the 2 in

218?

4. What is the value of the 2 in

342?

Activity 2 *Check in Task*

Use dice to complete the ‘Roll

It, Make It, Expand It’

worksheet.

Students roll a dice 3 times

and record their 3 digit

number putting each number

inside the hundred, tens and

units columns on their

worksheet.

Students then represent that

number by drawing MAB

blocks.

Then write the number in

expanded notation form,

e.g. 300 + 20 + 4 = 324

Today we are going to learn

how to recognise 3D shapes

like cones, cubes, cylinders,

spheres, pyramids and prisms.

Activity 1

Explore the ‘3D Objects and

their properties’ poster.

Use the poster to help

complete the ‘Guess the 3D

Object’ worksheet.

Activity 1

Using the poster from

yesterday, try and find an

object in your home that you

can say is a common 3D object.

For example, a cereal box is

rectangular prism.

Using the object, try to spin,

flip, and turn it. Does that

change the 3D object?

Even when we move a 3D

object into a different

orientation it remains as the

same shape even though it may

look different. The qualities

and dimensions remain the

same.

Activity 2

Look around your house and

backyard for more items that

are common 3D objects. The

pantry cupboard might be a

place to start!

worksheet.

a maze for a marble or a small

bouncy ball using some

recycled materials from home.

You can use a shoebox lid, a

paper plate or a piece of

cardboard as a base and then

create a maze path for a

marble to go through.

You can create the maze using

materials you find at home

such as playdough, paddle pop

sticks, straws, foil, pencils,

crayons, scissors, tape etc.

PDHPE – Health –

How do we use medicines

safely?

Today we are going to learn

about why it is important to

use medicines safely.

People often have medicine

when they are feeling unwell or

to prevent feeling worse if

they are sick. One example of

a medicine you might see

people use is an asthma puffer.

It is very important that

people are careful with

medicines. Children should only

have medicine when it is

needed and when it is given by

a trusted adult. It is also

important that people only

take medicine that is meant

for them. There are some rules for

safety when taking medicines

that include:

-You should only take your own

medicine

-You should have the correct

amount of medicine and at the

correct times

-You should only have medicine

when told to by a doctor, a

parent or caregiver

History - Special days

Some days are very important

to people. They may be a time

to celebrate, remember or to

have fun.

Different cultures share

different special days. They

may often be quite different

to days that you find special.

For example, in China on a

child’s birthday, they lay out a

bunch of objects in front of

them and see which item they

will choose. In this culture,

they say that whatever the

child chooses is what their

future job will be.

Questions:

What job do you think you will

choose when you grow up?

What is a special day that we

celebrate here in Australia?

What do you do on this special

day?

How does it make you feel?

What are some things that

would make a special day for

you? (Family, friends, food,

toys, swimming, playing

outside)

medicine and describe them in

a few sentences.

Questions:

Why do people use medicines?

Can you think of a time you had

medicine?

Who gave you the medicine

when you needed it?

Who looks after the medicine?

How can you know that you

have had the right amount of

medicine?

Why is it so important to be

careful with medicines?

Discuss the important rules

for taking medicine at home

with a grown up and list some

ideas.

Activity 2:

gives me medicines?’ after

going through the different

questions. Add features of an
