CATHOLIC CHURCH
16101 Rotunda Dr.
Dearborn, MI
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK By Fr. Terry Kerner
This past week our Catholic community received the sad news that St. Se-
bastian School will be closing in June of this year. The decision was not made
without considerable discussion, study, and prayerful deliberation. Dwindling en-
rollment and financial challenges, despite substantial Archdiocesan and private
benefactor assistance including that of St. Kateri, contributed to the painful deci-
sion. Saint Sebastian Parish and School are making every effort to help place both
students and faculty in nearby Catholic schools. Additionally St. Sebastian is of-
fering $500 tuition scholarships to students who will be attending a Catholic
school next year.
St. Sebastian School, since its founding in 1952 has touched the lives of
thousands thanks to no small part to the sacrifice and dedication of the Francis-
can Sisters of St. Joseph who inspired scores of laity to participate in the educa-
tion ministry of the Church. Please keep all the Sisters, lay teachers, parents and
especially all the students who through the years have been blessed by their St.
Sebastian experience.
This past Wednesday St. Kateri Church was honored by the Dearborn
Goodfellows for supporting their goal of ensuring that every child has a Christ-
mas. For several years now the parish has provided a central meeting place for
volunteers to bring their donations and have a hot lunch during some very cold
and damp days. We are proud to be a part of the annual effort with so many of our
kind and generous fellow citizens.
This Sunday beginning at Noon, a presentation and celebration of the life of
recently canonized Archbishop Oscar Romero will take place in the St. Francis
room (parish hall). You are invited! Free food and beverage will be available for
you and your guests. Think about coming and enjoying a Lenten Sunday right
after the 11:00 AM Mass!
Whether Irish or not, you had to have enjoyed the Irish Stew Supper and
entertainment last Saturday. We can all be grateful for the many volunteers who
decorated and served the meal. More than 125 folks enjoyed the stew donated by
Park Place Caterers. If you see Gary Kuhlman, give him your thanks!
Have a good week and keep up your Lenten resolutions.

FAITH FORMATION by Grace Lakatos
On Satur-
day, March 9th, I
had the privilege
and honor to pre-
sent to Bishop
Fisher three gen-
tlemen from the
parish of St. Kateri
for the Rite of Elec-
tion. These men
and their sponsors
have been prepar-
ing to enter the
Catholic Church
since September,
2018, and will
complete their ini-
tiation at the East-
er Vigil in April. This beautiful moving Rite was celebrated five times over
the course of two days and was packed to capacity each time. What a won-
derful happening in the Catholic Church. Please continue to pray for Ben,
Zachary and Richard as they continue on the journey of faith.

reading or prayers. The shop carries many books and sacramentals that can be
of benefit. Tell your family and friends.

One of our parishioners will be moving and has asked that we give you a
chance to get on some wonderful bargains before anyone else can. She has
available a kitchen table and 4 chairs, a sewing machine, computer desk, vacu-
um cleaner and a dehumidifier. If you are interested call 274-7254 to find out
more and to make arrangements.
THANK YOU, AGAIN FROM THE ST. SEBASTIAN FOOD PANTRY
Once again the fine people of St. Kateri parish have come through for us
at the pantry. We were in need of a freezer and we received a call from a won-
derful lady from St. Kateri who offered us a large donation for us to purchase a
new freezer. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We now have a large
chest freezer. I personally had goose bumps when she informed me of her in-
tentions and thankfully she called back and answered my question, “From
what parish are you?” Her answer, “St. Kateri”. Who else would come through
for us? God bless you, my dear, and your husband and may our dear Lord con-
tinue to bless the fine people of your parish.
