As work continues on the Paradise development, this view is currently not available. In the years to come this vantage point will once again become open to the public, but the area will be completely traffic free.

Curzon Street Station stands as a monument to a bygone era of rail travel, being Birmingham’s first ‘intercity’ rail terminus. As a Grade I listed building it will be incorporated into the new HS2 complex that is

due to be completed in 5 – 6 years’ time (assuming the project doesn’t get cancelled). Work has already begun to transform what was the dereliction left from Birmingham’s oldest rail terminus

into the city’s newest.

The real name of Dhruva Mistry’s sculpture is ‘The River’ but it soon became known colloquially as ‘The Floozie’. The sculpture in the lower pool is called ‘Youth’.

Over the years the fountain was subject to ongoing leakage problems but, despite a £300,000 restoration in 2010 the leaks returned and it was permanently turned off in 2013. Then in 2015 the main pool was filled with

soil and bedding plants.

As one of the most popular pubs in Moseley, the Prince of Wales offers traditional style pub culture (going back to 1860 when it was built) alongside a modern gin/wine experience in a new area at the back of the pub. The development of residential flats next door threatened the existence of the pub, but the flats are now in

place, the street art has gone and the Prince of Wales is still thriving.

From this viewpoint, only the Library of Birmingham remains. The trees have gone, the ‘Golden Boys’ are in storage (to be returned to a new spot outside Symphony Hall once Centenary Square is complete) and,

where you see buses a new tram line is being installed.

This view from the 16th Floor of the Park Regis Hotel is quite stunning with the Marriott Hotel on the left and the new Edgbaston Shopping Centre just behind. On the right are No 1 Hagley Road and Tricorn House. The gap in

between these buildings has now been filled by The Lansdowne development which has been dubbed ‘Birmingham’s poshest tower block’.

Now called Arena Birmingham following a £26 million renovation and redevelopment it opened in December 2014 as the Barclaycard Arena with a concert by Michael Bublé.

The renovation has allowed for many more businesses/bars/restaurants to occupy previously unused space, making it a more vibrant area, especially when there are no sporting/entertainment events being held.

The old Birmingham Central Library has gone, replaced by One and Two Chamberlain Square which are rapidly approaching completion. These buildings will house offices and retail/leisure spaces.

The Chamberlain Memorial, built in honour of the public service Joseph Chamberlain gave to the city, was unveiled in his presence on 10 October 1880 as the centrepiece of the new public square.

The 20 metres high memorial and fountain was designed by John Henry Chamberlain (no relation).

Between 2002 and 2003 the original Moor Street Station building and platforms were renovated and restored to a 1930s style at a cost of £11 million. It is now Birmingham’s second busiest station with frequent trains to

London via Chiltern Railways. Redevelopments are planned for when HS2 comes to fruition as part of the Midlands Rail Hub.

The redevelopment of Centenary Square has radically altered this view of Symphony Hall. The vista will then be forever altered when a new frontage appears as part of a £13 million redevelopment of

Symphony Hall.

The Hall of Memory remains, but everything behind (and around it) has gone (or will do soon) to be replaced by Paradise (behind) and the new Centenary Square (in front).

It was designed by SN Cooke and WN Twist, as a war memorial and erected 1922–25, by John Barnsley & Son, to commemorate the 12,320 Birmingham citizens who died in World War I.

It is now a Grade I listed building

Where The Pallasades Shopping Centre once stood, Birmingham now has Grand Central. Whilst primarily being a retail development, it also provides a much more spacious (if at times confusing) entrance to New Street Station. The mall has been redesigned with a Texlon® ETFE atrium roof as centrepiece to allow in natural

daylight. It is home to over sixty stores with John Lewis as main anchor tenant.
