TEXT AND MATERIALS
Laboratory: Biology 1106 General Biology I Lab Manual. El Paso Community College.

Authors: Amaya, Lannutti, Pacheco (required)
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
A. EVALUATION
Laboratory: The type and number of exams, quizzes (online & in class pop quizzes), and assignments will
be determined by the Instructor. * No exam will be dropped in calculating the final grade. All students
are required to take the final exams.*
B. GRADING PROCEDURE:
A=90-100%, B=80-89%, C=70-79%, D=60-69%, F=Below 60%
HIGH SCHOOL (100%)
Daily Activities 50%
Exams/Projects 30%
Final Exam 20%
Pre-AP Bio Lab: Following an excused absence, a student has two class periods to make up any work.
If the student receives a failing grade on an assignment, he/she has five days from the date of the
received notification of the failing grade to make arrangements to redo the assignment. The two grades
will then be averaged in order to obtain a final grade for the assignment. It is the student’s responsibility
to ensure that he/she has obtained all make up work and make arrangements to redo assignments. Make
up work and redo assignments will cover the same materials, however may differentiate in format and questions from
the original assignment.
C. CLASSROOM RULES
You are required to follow proper lab safety procedures during all laboratory procedures.
Horseplay, inappropriate behavior, and improper handling of lab materials will result in
immediate dismissal from the lab and will result in a zero for attendance.
I expect you to behave in an adult manner, but I do encourage questions and comments
regarding classroom topics.
Academic honesty: Cheating will not be tolerated. Being caught giving or receiving answers on
exams, using cheat sheets, or any other form of cheating, will cause immediate disciplinary
action. This can include dropping you from this class. Cell phones, iPods, mp3 players, etc. must
be put away during exams. You cannot be excused to take care of personal business during
exams.
Tardies: Tardy students should be seated without disturbing lecture. School policy allows a
student to be dropped if he/she is absent for 3 consecutive absences. Chronic tardiness will also
lead to corrective measures.
Biology 1106: Fall 2017
Electronics: Please TURN OFF your cellular phones once you enter the laboratory setting. Cell
phones should not be exposed in lab. IPods/MP3 players may not be used in class. Texting is not
permitted in class as it is particularly distracting. If you are found to be using one of these
devices in lab, I will ask you to place your electronic device on the instructor’s desk for the
remainder of the lab period. If you choose not to surrender your device, you will be asked to
leave the laboratory.
