Here are a few of their stunning creations.
AHEAD OF THE CURVE - FUNDRAISING FOR OUR
NEW BUILDING
We must say a huge thank you to Sophie and Tom Pakenham for
hosting the 'Shwopping' evening at their home. You can read about
it later in the newsletter, but the night was a great success and
raised almost £1200 for the building fund. Amazing!
Our thanks also to Claire Maguire for hosting a coffee morning for
Year 3 & 5 parents to celebrate St Patrick's Day. The event raised
an amazing £311 (including gift aid).
The money from the Spring Fair, including £150 raised by the
Grand National Sweepstake, will be deposited and will nudge the
total up a bit further.
Our total is now at £35,045.72. Thank you to everyone for
contributing so generously this term.
Upcoming Fundraising Dates are:
Thursday 25 April: Evening of James Bond Music
Tuesday 21 May: School Auction
Saturday 15 June: Summer Fair
Saturday 19 October: The Curve Ball, Kensington Hilton
A Visit to the Natural History Museum
This year, in the David Shepherd Global Canvas Art Competition we have again had great
success. The title of the Competition was "Fragile Future", referring to the future of our planet.
Jasper Oursin in Year 4 won joint 3rd prize in his age group. Well done Jasper!!! We also had
14 pieces of artwork from the children listed below, chosen for inclusion in the exhibition at
The Natural History Museum;
Ella Brickley, Ellie Carter, Natalia Dib, George Dib, Ainhoa Garcia, Claudia
Goulding, Lottie Hibberd, Yonghuan Jeong, Louise Laxague, Lisa McCormack,
Emma Millar, Meadow Molloy, Soraya Shakibi and Theo Thompson.
This competition is now widely international with over 3000 entries so our children have represented our
school extremely well. The children went to the Natural History Museum on the 7th of March to view the
exhibition, receive their certificates and prizes, meet David Shepherd and enjoy a talk and slideshow given
by Andrew White, a famous wildlife photographer. They all had a wonderful time. Congratulations to all
the children involved. Well done. Mrs C Rauh.

Year 4 Trip to the Royal Academy of Art
In March Year 4 went to the Royal Academy of Art to see
the Manet Exhibition and have a workshop. When we got
there we had a talk and a slide show all about Manet’s work and
life. Next we went in small groups with a volunteer to view the
paintings. Our helpers were called Julie, Margaret, Barbara and
Paul. They explained all the different paintings to us. We saw
‘Luncheon on the Grass’, ‘The Railroad’ and ‘ Madam Manet in
The Conservatory’. Then we went back into the classroom and
had our art workshop. First we made por-
traits using just black and white paint. Then we painted portraits
of famous people using black, white, blue and yellow. It was really
good fun. We painted people like Ashley Cole, Johnny Depp, The
Queen and Bradley Wiggins. After that we had our lunch and
went to the gift shop and spent £3.00 or less.
To conclude, we had a phenomenal day and will remember this
experience for a long time. Maddy Sala, Elizabeth Naylor
and Meadow Molloy (Year 4)
A small group of Year 5 pupils was invited to a Science Fair at Latymer Upper School on Tuesday 19th March.
The Science Fair was a great experience. We got to make musical instruments out of straws; the instruments did not really
make a noise but they looked cool. We also made key rings by cutting out pictures and putting them onto the key ring holders.
We played with ‘goo’ that turned into a liquid when you relaxed your hand but turned into a solid when you moved or tried to
play with it. We made a sugary, fizzy sauce - it was yummy! We got to hold a giant cockroach and a stick insect; when it walked
around it tickled a lot. Another activity was when we had to close our eyes and hold our noses whilst eating a jelly bean; it was
difficult to work out what flavour it was. We did loads more amazing things and had a fantastic time. I would love to go again.
Emily Peebles (Class 5B)
On Tuesday 19th March Class 4B
went to Westminster Cathedral.
One of the hymns that we sang was
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot which
they usually sing at rugby games. We
really enjoyed it, it was really fun!

FOOTBALL NEWS
The quarter and the semi finals of the Mayor’s Cup
This took place on the afternoon of Friday, 15th March. Both the Larmenier and Sacred Heart girls’ and boys’ teams played Sir
John Lillie in the quarter finals. The girls’ match ended in a 0-0 draw and went to penalties. Diana Negri and Izzy Ferguson both
scored their penalties and the girls’ team won and went through to the semi final against Holy Cross. The boys’ team played
exceptionally well with Patrick McWeeney scoring for Larmenier, but sadly the boys lost 2-1.
In the semi final, two goals from myself and a goal from Diana Negri secured a 3-0 victory against Holy Cross and a place in the
Mayor’s Cup Final. Emily Sawyer (Class 6G)
The finals of the Mayor’s Cup
The girls’ football team, comprising Johanna Verry-Justica, Izzy Fergusson (captain), Sophie
O’Driscoll, Tilly Downes, Emily Sawyer, Ella Brickley, Holly Hudson, Diana Negri and Tavy
Oursin, got the victory they deserved in this year’s Mayor’s Cup. The final against Bracken-
bury was played at Hurlingham Park on Friday 22nd March. The day was bitterly cold and the
conditions were made worse by a swirling wind, but the girls were spurred on by huge vocal
support from the Year 6 fan club, teachers and proud parents.
The early exchanges were tense as both teams struggled to control the ball in the difficult
conditions. Seasoned observers on the sidelines felt that one goal might be enough to win this.
The ball was in the Brackenbury half for much of the first ten minutes and, although they
forced a number of corners, the girls could not find the finishing touch and score. Finally, before half-time, the deadlock was bro-
ken when Emily Sawyer took advantage of time and space to shoot home. Even though Brackenbury started the second half
strongly, the girls defended as a team all the way through and never looked like conceding. The final whistle was greeted with
cheers on and off the pitch.
The girls were presented with their medals and cup by the Mayor of Hammersmith and Fulham, Belinda Donovan. Congratula-
tions and well done to the girls and the coaching staff. This was the third year in which a football team from this school has
claimed a victory in this competition. Tom Walsh (Link Governor for PE)

As well as recording those who have received merit cards each week we would also like to celebrate some of the
achievements for which they have been recognised. Merits are awarded for great academic work but also for many other
special reasons. Here are some examples of the great things the children have been doing during the last fortnight.
Writing an exceptional essay reflecting on
her faith so far and using Joan of Arc’s
story as a source of inspiration.
Working really hard on his handwriting
and the content of his written work. He is
an extremely polite boy who always has a
smile ready.
Excellent participation in the Opera
Holland Park Workshop.
Working hard in his maths. He was able
to talk about the properties of 2D and
3D shapes and used a range of 2D shapes
to make a beautiful picture of a church.
Well done!

Week Ending 22 March
Being a wonderful member of the class
with her bubbly positive attitude. She also
listens well and always tries to do her best
work. Well done.
Rising wonderfully to the
challenge of SATs, especially in his
Grammar, Punctuation and
Spelling tests.
She has made excellent
progress in her reading. The
hard work and effort she
puts in both at home and in
school is really showing. She
is a polite, mannerly and
caring girl who is a pleasure
to teach. Well done and
keep up the good work.
Writing a very
good essay for our RE
topic and reflecting
maturely on her faith
so far.
THE SPRING FAIR
We thank everyone for their patience, when in an effort to cope with weather that felt more like
Christmas than Spring, the Spring Fair took place in the confines of the school hall. With plenty of
cakes to buy, bargains to be had on the clothes and uniform stall, and a great array of activities for
the children, people could put the weather out of their minds for an hour and simply enjoy them-
selves! The craft tables were busy and our fabulous face painters were as popular as ever. Vivien
Clark and Anna Wodzinska made a great effort to attract people to their Grand National Sweep-
stake stall by dressing as horse and jockey. It worked - their tickets sold out in no time! Thank you
to all those who helped on stalls and helped with preparation for the Fair. We managed to raise
just over £1100, which is a fantastic effort!
The winners of the Spring Fair raffle are:
1st prize 2 tickets to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show: Mary McMorrow (6G)
2nd Prize Hand-decorated Easter Cake: Stephen Doherty (5G)
3rd Prize Basket of Easter Eggs: Julie Casey
4th and 5th Prizes Celebrity T-shirts: Miss Johnson (4B) and Lucy O'Shaugnassy
Michelle Townsend (PTA Chair)
ACORN ASSEMBLY
On Tuesday, 12th March, Acorn Class presented an assembly
about Lent and Mothering Sunday. The children told us all
about what they have been doing during Lent to prepare for
Easter and recited a poem that they had learned especially for
their mums. For Rosie, the best part of the assembly was the
end when everybody sang, “Give me Joy in my Heart” and
Cyrus enjoyed Ben showing everyone how much Jesus loves
us. Well done to Acorn Class for speaking so clearly, acting
so well and singing so beautifully.
5G’S ASSEMBLY
On Tuesday 5th March Class 5G presented an assembly
about Catholic social teaching. We covered quite heavy are-
as within our faith and Church, including subjects such as
the election of the new Pope, the work of the charity
CAFOD and how at this time of Lent we can try to improve
our lives by following in the footsteps of Jesus. The assembly
made us think about our responsibilities as Christians for
caring for one another, especially the poor and needy.
Although our assembly was serious, we did have a couple of
giggles. Mr Garvin played the guitar whilst we sang ‘Harvest
for the World’. I think Class 5G really enjoyed preparing for
our assembly.

ST. MARY’S NETBALL TOURNAMENT
On Wednesday 13th March, Larmenier and Sacred Heart’s
netball team took part in a netball tournament organised by
St. Mary’s Catholic Primary School. Other schools, includ-
ing Lena Gardens, Brackenbury and Addsion, were also in-
vited. After a few minutes we were called to play against St.
Mary’s. We were put into our positions, but there was
a problem, we did not know how to play 7 aside as we had
only learned to play 5 aside! We rose to the challenge and
tried our best, but we lost the first game, 1-5. After a break
and while Lena Gardens played Brackenbury we were called
up again. We played St. Mary’s again and we played better
in this second game as we had learned a bit more about
playing 7 aside. We concentrated more on who we had to
mark. After the match we were treated to orange juice and
biscuits. Although we did not win we were proud of our-
selves as we gave our best shot and had a lot of fun.
