Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ. I found an interesting article on the origin of this feast; I think that you may like it: “In 1263 a German priest, Fr. Peter of Prague, made a pilgrimage to Rome. He stopped in Bolsena, Italy, to celebrate Mass at the Church of St. Christina. At the time he was having doubts about Jesus being truly present in the Blessed Sacrament. He was affected by the growing debate among certain theologians who, for the first time in the history of the Church, be-gan introducing doubts about the Body and Blood of Christ being actually present in the consecrated bread and wine. In response to his doubt, when he recited the prayer of consecration as he celebrated the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, blood started seeping from the consecrated host and onto the altar and corporal. Fr. Peter reported this miracle to Pope Urban IV, who at the time was nearby in Orvieto. The Pope sent delegates to investigate and ordered that host and blood-stained corporal be brought to Orvieto. The relics were then placed in the Cathedral of Orvieto, where they remain to-day” (www.catholiccompany.com).

Because of personal issues, Mrs. Miller has decided to renounce her position at St. Joseph. As we say goodbye to her, join me in welcoming J. Trainor & Associates - Accounting & Business Services. They will oversee the accounting and, in addition, they will help run the business side of operations for our parish. They are a very competent and enthusiastic team, committed to help our parish reach financial stability and growth.
Finally, the Festival is coming! It’s already next weekend! I want to thank in advance all those who are helping us. As “the new guy”, let me tell you, I am impressed. I see how many people are involved in the preparation of this event and how much work they do “behind the scenes”. It truly is very, very important for us. Please, help us in anyway you can. EL SACRAMENTO DEL BAUTISMO
Hemos comenzado en la parroquia una nueva Pastoral Bautismal que es más completa y adaptada a las necesidades pastorales que se presentan. Se desarrolla del siguiente modo: 1.- ENTREVISTA INICIAL CON EL SACERDOTE. El día designado para las entrevistas bautismales es: Lunes, de 3:00 pm a 7:00 pm, en las oficinas parroquiales.
2.- VISITA E INSTRUCCIÓN DEL EQUIPO BAUTISMAL. En segundo lugar, cada persona o pareja que va a bautizar recibirá una visita en su casa por parte de miembros del Equipo Bautismal que les instruirán sobre el bautismo en un ambiente de fe y cordialidad.
3.- CLASE BAUTISMAL. El penúltimo viernes de cada mes (8 días antes del bautismo) habrá una clase bautismal para padres y padrinos a las 7:30pm en la Capilla del Convento para explicar el rito del bautismo y su significado.
4.- BAUTISMO. El día del bautismo será publicado en el boletín de antemano con varios meses en antelación.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,
Hoy celebramos la Solemnidad del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo. Encontré un artículo interesante sobre el origen de esta fiesta; creo que les puede interesar: “En 1263 un sacerdote alemán, el P. Pedro de Praga, hizo una peregrinación a Roma. Se detuvo en Bolsena, Italia, para celebrar la misa en la Iglesia de Santa Cristina. En ese momento él estaba dudando de que Jesús estuviera realmente pre-sente en el Santísimo Sacramento. Se vio afectado por el creciente debate entre ciertos teólogos que, por primera vez en la historia de la Iglesia, comenzaron a introducir dudas sobre la presencia real del Cuerpo y la Sangre de Cristo en el pan y el vino consagrados. En respuesta a su duda, cuando recitó la oración de consagración mientras celebraba el Santo Sacri-ficio de la Misa, la sangre comenzó a filtrarse de la hostia consagrada y en el altar y el corporal. Padre Peter informó de este milagro al Papa Urbano IV, quien en ese momento estaba cerca, en Orvieto. El Papa envió delegados a investigar y ordenó que la hostia y el corporal manchado de sangre fueran llevados a Orvieto. Las reliquias fueron colocadas en la Ca-tedral de Orvieto, donde permanecen hoy" (www.catholiccompany.com).
