of the Emperor Vespasian
Many famous Roman buildings have used stone
from the Colosseum, including St Peter’s. 2/3 of the original building have
been taken. The Colosseum was originally
called the Flavian
Amphitheatre after
Vespasian’s family name
Its circumference was 545 metres, and its
four storeys rose to a height of 57 metres
It could seat around 50,000

Members of the audience could enter or leave via the vomitoria from the
