Vladimir PutinHe was born in 1952. After

graduating from the law department in 1975, he served in the Federal Security Service for 15 years. In 1990s he held several high staff positions in St.Petersburg city government and in the national government administration. Now he plays a very important role in the life of our country.

Famous writers

Alexander Pushkin.Pushkin is the most important Russian writer

and poet of all time, like Shakespeare in Britain. He provided the standarts for Russian literature in the nineteenth century. Pushkin was born in Moscow in 1799 in an upper-class family. In 1811 he entered a lyceum at Tsarskoye Selo. He graduated from the lyceum in 1817 and began to work in the foreign office in St.Petersburg. Pushkin fell in love with Natalya Goncharova, and in 1830 they got married. His wife was suspected of an affair with Baron Georges d'Antes. This became the subject of gossip. Pushkin challenged d'Antes to a duel. Pushkin was badly wounded and died two days later.

William Shakespeare William Shakespeare - greatest English

dramatist and one of the best poets of Britain was born in the town Stradford-upon-Avon in a family of a glover. The exact date of birth is unknown – approximatly he was born on April, 23. Researchers can not exactly say, how Shakespeare became an actor and dramatist. His works were very popular both with people and with the court. And still today theatres all over the world stage comedies, tragedies and dramas by Shakespeare more frequently than works of other authors. Shakespeare’s contribution to the history of Britain can’t be overestimated. In the British Museum the manuscript of the play "Sir Thomas Mor“ is kept. It is considered to be a unique manuscript, reached to our days.

Anna Akhmatova

Akhmatova was born in Bolshoy Fontan near Odessa. She started writing poetry at the age of 11, and was published in her late teens. Akhmatova's work ranges from short lyric poems to intricately structured cycles, such as Requiem (1935–40), her tragic masterpiece about the Stalinist terror. Her style, characterised by its economy and emotional restraint, was strikingly original and distinctive to her contemporaries. The strong and clear leading female voice struck a new chord in Russian poetry.

Agatha ChristieAgatha Christie is possibly the

world's most famous detective story writer. She wrote 79 novels and several plays. Her books are translated into over 100 foreign languages. Many of her novels and short stories have been filmed. Her sales outnumber those of Shakespeare, but her life was often lonely and unhappy.

Joanne Kathleen RowlingJoanne Kathleen Rowling, born on July 31, 1965 in Bristol, England, she always wanted to become a writer. She wrote her first book at the age of six.After graduating from University she worked as a secretary for some time and then moved to Portugal to teach English as a second language.In Portugal Joanne met and married a TV journalist. The marriage didn't last long and Rowling returned to Britain with her 4-month-old daughter and a suitcase full of Harry Potter notes.

John Ronald TolkienThe author of the famous book "The Lord of the Rings" was born in 1892 in South Africa and grew up in a village near Birmingham. He took part in the First World War. Then he became a professor of English at Oxford University. It was while he was correcting exam papers that Tolkien wrote down a strange sentence that started: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit... " He created his own world inhabited by wizards, elves, dwarves, goblins and certainly hobbits. The book was an immediate success. Tolkien's magic world caught reader's imagination.

Johann Sebastian Bach was a great German composer of the Baroque period, organist virtuoso, music teacher.During his life Bach wrote over 1000 works. His works include all significant genres of the time, except Opera; he summarized the achievements music of the Baroque period Bach was a consummate master of polyphony.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was an Austrian composer who showed their abilities at the age of four. Mozart is one of the most popular classical composers. Mozart had a musical ear, memory and ability to improvise.He worked in all musical instruments and has composed more than 600 works.

Visotski Vladimir He was born in 1938 and

died in 1980. He was an actor and a singer. His social satire spoke of the ironies and hardships of a strictly regulated Soviet society. He was featured in 26 motion pictures.

Great scientists

Mikhail Lomonosov. • The great Russian scientist, the chemist, the

physicist, the artist and the poet Mikhail Vasilyevich Lomonosov was born on November 19th the 1711th year in the Arkhangelsk province. Since the early childhood Mikhail Lomonosov reached for knowledge. Very much early it managed to master the diploma. Despite the developed hardest circumstances, he manages to overcome all barriers by means of the diligence, persistence and assiduity. As a result of it, five years, Lomonosov later finishes a course which usually all pass in twelve years. And in the 1744th year it is entitled professor of chemical sciences. It is impossible to estimate that contribution which brought Lomonosov in development of many sciences – chemistry, physics, astronomies, geography, geology and many others – its achievements are so great.

Charles Darwin

• Charles Darwin -English scientist, author of the theory “Origin of kinds under the action of natural selection”. A round-the-world voyage gave a shove to the origin of the theory at the beginning of 1830s, where Darwin was taken as a naturalist. Darwin published a row of research works in 1859 in a book "Origin of kinds by a natural selection".

Andrei Sakharov Sakharov was born in Moscow on May 21, 1921. His

father was Dmitri Ivanovich Sakharov, a private school physics teacher and an amateur pianist. His father later taught at the Second Moscow State University. Andrei's grandfather Ivan had been a prominent lawyer in imperial Russia who had displayed respect for social awareness and humanitarian principles (including advocating the abolition of capital punishment) that would later influence his grandson. Sakharov's mother was Yekaterina Alekseyevna Sakharova, a great-granddaughter of the prominent military commander Alexey Semenovich Sofiano (who was of Greek ancestry).Sakharov's parents and paternal grandmother, Maria Petrovna, largely shaped his personality. Although Sakharov's paternal great-grandfather had been a priest in the Russian Orthodox Church, and his pious mother had him baptised, Sakharov was an atheist in later life.However, he did believe that a "guiding principle" governed the universe and human life.
