Limited to 175 characters, including spaces, detailing your duties/ experiences. PI, supervisors names requires, and hours spent.

+ Personal Statement

Very important part of the application. Your time to shine!

Follow the prompt! Your Personal Statement should address why you desire to

pursue a dental education and how a dental degree contributes to your personal and professional goals.

You are limited to approximately 1 page (4500 characters, including spaces).

Write it in a word processor such as Word or Notepad and copy and paste the final version into the text box in AADSAS.

Have your personal statement edited!!!

+ Letters of Recommendation Generally, any given school wants 3- CHECK!

For you, that means, you’ll probably want to collect 4 (AADSAS currently says this is their max): Science Professor: Someone who can evaluate your

academic and intellectual qualifications. Unless specified by the school, the type of science professor should not matter, as long as they can write you a STRONG letter.

Dentist: Someone who can evaluate your knowledge and motivation toward the dental profession.

Character: Someone who can indicate your contribution to humanity and community.

**Check individual schools to be sure your LORs meet their requirements. If sending additional letters (i.e. 4 instead of 3) call to make sure additional letters are accepted.

+ How do I gather / submit these?

Letters of Evaluation Online (LEO)http://depts.washington.edu/careers/leo/ Signup online UW’s Center for Career Services, MGH 134 $35 to open file, $7 PER school to send all to

AADSAS at the same time. Print out a form for each evaluator. Good FAQ section. Can open today.

Letters can also be sent electronically, but would require an electronic signature. It is not much faster!

+ How do I gather / submit these? Contact your evaluator and ask if they can write you a

strong letter of recommendation. Start early! Ask as soon as possible, if you haven’t already. Generally give your evaluator ~3 months.

If yes, make an appointment with them. Bring with you a folder with the following: Personal Statement (It’s okay if it’s a rough draft) Transcript A detail resume of your activities/awards (this is different from a

job resume) A letter to the professor on what you want them to focus on.

Specifically, skills/qualities that apply to dentistry. LEO form Stamped envelope addressed to the UW Career Center** If you are asked to write your own, make sure that you are

comfortable with it. Also, if you do write your own letter, make sure that you are honest.

**Remember to send your evaluator a thank you note!

+ Sidenotes!!! Examine the AADSAS site for yourself thoroughly

Do not underestimate how long AADSAS will take in processing your informations

Once you have SUBMITTED, you can not change your application EXCEPT for the LOR and DAT section.

Continually check back with your application to see if letters and transcripts have been received.

You can submit your application before you take your DAT.

Remember, you’ll have a lot of secondary applications to fill out once you’re done with AADSAS!
