Parliamentary Committees and Agendas
1. Lok Sabha
Agenda: Improving Indian policies to facilitate extradition and create conditions
conducive to stronger bilateral agreements.
The Bhopal Gas Tragedy absconder, the liquor baron, the financial fraudsters.
While the government has succeeded in bringing back 18 fugitive offenders,
many remain on the run. Be it due to dual criminality, existing poor conditions
of prisons or simple differences in treaties, extraditing offenders has become a
major challenge for India.
The Lok Sabha aims to bring in reforms to improve existing prison conditions
and create a stronger image on the global platform to initiate quicker and more
efficient extradition. The committee will also discuss the need to revise
extradition treaties India hold with other nation.
Number of participants: 100
2. Rajya Sabha
Agenda: Deliberation on the legitimacy of the provision of preventive
detention in the Indian Constitution.
Preventive Detention, an action taken on the grounds to prevent possible
commitment of crime, has received much criticism lately. It has given wide
ranging powers to the executive to hold trial of a suspected individual.
Amidst all the discussion over its validity; there is one question that echoes-
are we accepting a law that could possibly turn Draconian? The Rajya Sabha
will involve discussions over the reach of preventive detention that has now
grown to become overtly political.
Number of Participants: 50

3. Taqseem-e-Takht Committee (The Partition of Thrones and Provinces)
Agenda: Revisiting the Indian Independence Act, 1947
Laying borders across land does not only divide nations, it inflicts wounds
that take decades to heal. The Partition of India and Pakistan still affects the
socio-economic and political relations of today. The nations that were once
together; now stand as rivals on the global platform.
Taqseem-e-Takht is a committee that attempts to turns back time and fix the
patches once again. Taqseem-e-Takht, which translates to the Partition of
Provinces, will aim towards revamping the history and taking a major
decision against time: Will India and Pakistan be separate states?
Freeze Date: The era before August 1947
Number of Participants: 50
4. Prakriti-Parivesh Committee (Nature and Milieu)
Agenda: Formulating Policies to combat water crisis and improve AQI levels
in metropolitan cities.
A selfish and boundless thirst for power and wealth has led to the over-
exploitation of our natural resources. The misuse of our resources has led to an
environmental degradation so severe; it has turned into our gravest nightmare-
and it is high time we wake up.
Prakriti Parivesh which means “The natural surroundings and our humble
abode” will focus on formulating policies that ensure a sustainable, more
habitable and balanced environment
Number of Participants: 50
