1) REVIEW REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH POSITION
2) REVIEW ICS CHECKLIST
3) PRACTICE USING CHECKSHEETS ON A MOCK SCENARIO

HOW MANY TECHS ARE NEEDED FOR A LEVEL A ENTRY AND WHAT ARE THE POSTITIONS?
(WITH A 3 PERSON ENTRY AND 3 PERSON BACK-UP)
ANSWER: 11
(SEE NEXT SLIDE)
THE FOLLOWING POSTIONS MUST BE FILLED BY HAZMAT TECHNICIANS:
Hazmat Group Supervisor
Research
Hazmat Safety Officer*
Decon Supervisor
Entry Team Leader
Entry and Back-up Personnel
*see exception under description
Hazmat Group Supervisor
This individual will make or break the call. They need to take charge the hazmat side of the call and, if necessary, be able to distance themselves from the IC.
Initial set-up of the scene to provide a “working corridor” using apparatus can help make the call successful. This will allow a central location where suits can be donned and equipment gathered and the pre-entry briefing can take place.
RESEARCH
THIS TECH SHOULD BE AN EXPERIENCED TECH WITH PROFIECIENCY IN USING MULITIPLE RESOURCES, BOTH WRITTEN AND ONLINE
MUST BE FAMILIAR WITH ALL NECESSARY INSTUMENTATION PERTINANT TO THE CALL. THEY WILL ALSO MAKE SURE THE ENTRY TEAM IS BREIFED ON THE EQUIPMENT
Hazmat Safety Officer
May be filled by Company Officer that is not a tech as long as they are paired with a tech. It is important to have an assertive individual in this role because they may have to challenge the plan.
In addition to Company Safety Officer training, they should have Hazmat Safety Officer training.
Decon Supervisor
Will set up decon corridor in the warm zone.
Will run a crew of Ops Level individuals to perform decon.
Will work with Research to determine decon solution.
Entry Team Leader
#1 priority is the Entry (or) Back-up Teams.
Makes sure personnel have everything they need to safely make entry and perform a recon or mitigate.
Maintains direct communication with teams working in the hot zone.
Entry and Back-up Teams
The technicians in PPE performing the necessary recon and mitigation.
Must be knowledgeable with all of the monitoring and detecting equipment as well as interpreting readings.
Must also be proficient with sampling kits, patching, and plugging.
ICS CHECKSHEET REVIEW
ICS Checksheets
These were set up with all of the checkboxes to ensure the requirements are met.
Review the check sheets occasionally to stay familiar with the content.
It is possible to get tunnel vision with the check sheets. Overall scene awareness still needs to occur to set a tempo and keep things running smoothly.
Make sure all packets contain a clipboard, a corresponding vest, and a pen. There should be a set of black and white check sheets for training and colored ones for incidents.
